My son just told me he bought some Tiki Cat Food for my diabetic cat Bear and it should get here by mail Friday. The pharmacist he works with has a diabetic cat that has been in full diet controlled remission and had told my son that after changing to Tiki food his cat immediately went into remission.

I am more skeptical than my son. My Cat Bear has been on low carb Friskies Pate's for a month and 3/4. My son thinks it is possible that Bear hasn't improved much because he might be food sensitive to the by-products and other ingredients in Friskies.

Has anyone else had experience with Tiki?

Hi Lora, there are cats that go into remission with a diet change and never need insulin however there are a lot of folks here feeding Tiki cat and if it was the magic bullet we all seek, I'm sure everyone would be feeding it. Every cat is different and while we recommend carbs under 10% there are cats that do well on 1-2% carbs and others who do better on 4-5% etc. The same no doubt is true for all the different ingredients they put into cat food.
Short answer....I think your skepticism is warranted but there is no harm trying it. Bear may love it.

Low carb food definitely makes a difference. I have a friend who's cat was switched to Fancy Feast from Meow mix and within a few weeks was good to go. I guess in these cases the cats are just pre-diabetic and are caught in time. I think my cat Dusty was one of those, I just had him on Lantus for a little under two weeks with Fancy Feast and next you know he was in remission... thankfully still is 5 years later.

There are probably quite a few factors that could make a difference. It is possible the pharmacist's cat was on high carb before the switch. I have also read that some cats are genetically disposed to diabetes and others are like type 2 human diabetes and is brought on by diet. Thank God a cat can sometimes regenerate their pancreas while humans can't. :)

I'm so glad for you and Dusty!

Cats are amazing!

hi, I have tried Tiki cat food, but find it difficult to find in Kamloops BC. Any suggestions where a person can get it online cheaper in Canada or a pet food chain that carries it? thanks in advance

Chewy.com is where the Pharmacist orders Tiki. I know they ship to Canada but I have no idea of price comparison. For a one month supply for one cat he spends $120 US dollars.

@cwc-7 looks like Global pets carries the Tiki cat. I think Tail Blazers does too but the nearest to you right now would be in Kelowna which is probably not an option but they are still opening franchises so you might want to keep an eye on out for them.

My cat was recently diagnosed. Can you please tell me what kind of fancy feast you are feeding? Thank you.
