Hi everyone, does anyone know if the Tiki Cat brand of “ Wet Treat” is safe for diabetic cats? In other words , is it too high in carbs that it might cause a large rise in blood sugar? Xanthum gum appears to be the thickener. My newly diagnosed 4 yr old cat loves them and that is what we have been using to bribe him into being still and a reward for his ear pricks. His numbers have been bouncing like crazy last couple days , not sure what is causing it as I don’t feed him these treats every time we do an ear prick but they sure help. Spreadsheet attached below if anyone has time to help. Thank you!!

Hi Janey,

Sorry that no one responded to your question. I looked at the Tiki Wet Treats and they look like they are all low carb as is true of most Tiki foods--they are a favorite among many kitties around here. And treats with ear pricks are the way to go, always! We want our kitties to associate testing with something nice. :cat:

As for your spreadsheet, it looks like Bear needs a dose increase. Since he's on Lantus, you might want to post in the Lantus forum for dosing advice. https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/forums/lantus-basaglar-glargine-and-levemir-detemir.9/

Hi, thank you so much for your reply. It has been on my mind that he may need one. I had been giving him Fancy Feast along with Friskies ( all pate or classic) and I was getting the feeling that the Friskies was increasing his numbers for some reason. So, starting last night and all of today he has been getting Fancy Feast only. His numbers have been back in the yellow most of today . I will keep this up one more day to see if they come down more. But yes, I will post over on the Lantus board tomorrow and see if anyone replies. Thanks again for reading my question about the Tiki cat, he loves those and I didn’t want to stop feeding him those too, dry food was bad enough!
