Tiki cat allergy

Just curious, if any has a cat that starting experiencing severe itching while on tiki cat? I added it to their diet now one of my non diabetic cats is grooming herself to the point of sores/lesions.

Had anti biotic injection...steroids...cone and is still having issues. I stopped feeding them all tiki cat about 3 weeks ago when this all started.

So, you stopped feeding this food but the symptoms have continued to persist for 3 weeks?
Can you think of any other allergens that she might have come into contact with, and continues to be in contact with?
Is there any possibility that the over-grooming could be stress-induced..?

No idea....I just was curious, if anyone has experienced a reaction to the tiki cat food
 
because my cat has trouble with chicken, thats the first thing i thought of for your cat.

if my cat eats chicken, he gets itchy and starts losing fur, and starts excessive grooming.

another common protein that can induce allergic skin trouble in cats is beef, but we do fine on beef. its always been chicken that is the problem.

so if you stopped tiki 3 weeks ago and kitty is still having trouble, i'd tend to think its not the tiki but something else.
 
I have a good friend whose cat is highly allergic to chicken, causes overgrooming, and swelling to the point that breathing becomes difficult for him.
 
Fish is another common allergen. Several of the tiki varieties contain fish even if it doesn't say so in the name. Check the ingredient list.
 
I'm no expert on food allergies, but Winnie is allergic to something causing her itchy ears (vet suspects seasonal allergies, like pollen) and is now on half a tablet of Zyrtec once per day.
Since we started the medication, she rarely scratches at her ears, and I don't have to clean the wax as often. She seems much more comfortable.

You can ask your vet about giving allergy medication to see if that helps with the symptoms if you can't pinpoint a cause. Hope your kitty feels better soon!
