Tiffy - Glucometer??????? Relion - Bayer?

Hi, I am wondering what is the difference if any between Relion Prime, Ultima and Confirm, and if the Relion strips compatible with all three of the previously mentioned, and which one should I buy for Tiffy to further treat her in a more economic way. I am attempting to get back my life and settle in. I am less nervous and now can concentrate on other things like ketone testing and gating for segregating and cheaper treatment. I like the relion because it is cheaper than Bayer. Is Bayer the Best? Which rElion? Help  ;-)

Confirm & micro use the same strips & would be what I recomnend. Ultima & prime are.different & use unique strips. I think the ultima requires more blood per test than confirm/micro. Don't know much about prime.

I should.warn you that a human glicometer reads ~40 points lower than an AlphaTrack. Not a problem since we're more concerned with trends bit something to keep in mind if you switch.

Relion Prime 0.5 Microliter blood drop, test strips 0.18 each, seems to give more errors than the Confirm, probably because people are not getting a large enough blood drop.
Relion Confirm/micro 0.3 microliter blood drop, test strips 0.36 each.

No info from me on the Bayer meter.

The Prime wasn't available when I was testing, but is the most cost effective but I've heard conflicting view points about it. I loved my Relion Micro.

The generic version of the Confirm, and test strips, the Glucocard 01, is available from our shopping partner ADW, link at top of page. The test strips are interchangeable.

I used the Relion Ultima when I first started. It required a LOT of blood, and Grayson didn't like to give it up! Very frustrating. I also questioned it's accuracy, as I got some really off the wall readings.

I did a test with my Accu Chek Aviva, Bayer Contour, and ReliOn Confirm for DCIN in January of this year. Side by side by side testing. Check out Grayson's SS for January and you'll see the numbers.

I'd feel confident with any of the three. It's not a matter of how different the numbers were to each other, but mostly seeing how consistent each was to itself, using the others as a reference. The Confirm and Contour read lower than my ACA at low numbers, which some people like because it's a "worst case scenario" and helps you be ready if you need to get out your hypo kit.

I would check for the best prices on the strips and let that help you in your decisionmaking. That's where your biggest investment comes in.

Using different meters is kind of like reading temperature in Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin.

Ex freezing
32 degrees Fahrenheit
0 degrees Celsius
273 degrees Kelvin

None of these are wrong; they are just different ways of measuring.
