Hi there,

Feeling encouraged a few days ago and not so encouraged today with these numbers. She does seem to be feeling better though...acting more like herself.

My question is regarding food. The vet told me to feed her 3/4 large can of DM every 12 hours and 2T dry DM in between feedings for her to snack on...obviously, I have started to go "Rogue" and am not taking that advice. I have been trying different recommended brands of cat food...unfortunately her favorite is still FF Classics, but I do keep trying others. (BTW...she hates the DM cat food and we are NOT doing dry per the recommendations of this group.)

I am feeding her 1 small can in the a.m. before her shot and 1 small can p.m. before the shot. She does not always finish the portion...She prefers small meals throughout the day. I have been giving her a small snack of the tiki cat mouse which is supposed to be zero carbs and she likes it. Am I doing this right??? Her numbers are high still, so any help with food would be great...

Thank you!!!

I had to go look up tiki cat mouse.....

turns out it's a new line tiki cat velvet mousse....

darn... I was so excited that someone had made a mouse flavor. :joyful::facepalm:

you should look at the calories on the cans to make sure she's getting enough but small meals thruout the day are the way to go if you can manage it. Just don't feed 2 hours before shot time, pick up the food, so you won't have food influenced numbers at shot time.

My girl was a friskies girl and preferred it to all the other brands too. Lucky for me she was not carb sensitive and actually did better with some.

Haha...yes Mouse Mousse flavor would be great. So, I was instructed to feed and then give the shot. We do 5:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. So, what would be the times you feed meals?? Trying to understand this. Thank you!!

And...I have read about this Young Again Zero Dry Cat Food. Is that something I should think about???

Best stay away from any dry food if your cat will eat wet. Dry is just not good for cats. Diabetes is hard on our kitties kidneys and we need to try to get as much moisture in them as we can.

As for feeding meals between shot times, it's a bit of trial and error to see what works for your cat. If your cat does a big drop early in the cycle, then a meal before onset is good. Otherwise the general guideline is to spread out the food and try to feed the majority of the carbs before nadir.
