Ticks, frontine, advantage etc.

Found a couple of ticks. Do these types of treatments have any negative impact on a sugarcat?

In my experience, no they do not. Always use a product from a veterinarian though such as the ones you mentioned in subject line. Some OTC anti-tick & flea meds have been harmful to pets. Hopefully they are off the market now, but it's best to use the safest product.

I found Frontline Plus for cats to be very effective against ticks.
 
Hi Carl, and, of course, sweet Bob,

I have absolutely no idea, as I've had/have indoor-only cats; be they extra-sweet or not. Just wanted to say you live in heaven on earth. I remember that sloping, almost lazy bridge on the way to Hilton Head...

I also wanted to send love and hugs to Vicky and her extraordinary wizard sugar cat...

Hope it's okay to remind you that life continues, Carl -- especially when accompanied by a sugar cat!

Edited because discovered his name is Bob. How purrfect? He's a Bob cat...
 
We use Revolution for KT as well as most of the cats if we know they have no heartworm and advantage for the others. My vet said Revolution was fine for sugarcats. I have had more over the years have skin reactions to frontline but no other issues. We live on top of an ancient beach in Oklahoma - the sand is actually 40 feet deep in places so fleas and ticks are terrible. We have to keep even our inside babies treated as we have 3 small dogs inside also. Even tho' they're treated too, they still occasionally bring in fleas on their hair.

I use Frontline Plus, since we live in New Jersey and there are lots of ticks, and my cats, especially my civie Ginger loves to hide in the woods and the bushes, and then they like to sleep on top of my head at night...I wish I could put Frontline on myself, I have been treated for Limes twice. Since our summers are short (thankfully!), I only use it about 3 times a year.
 
I'll probably ask the vet for some Frontline + when Bob gets his checkup on Wednesday.
Bob ventures out to the screen porch, but never outside. Mullet is an in-and-out kitty, so either he's bringing the ticks in, or I am. This place is overrun with the little buggers.

Dyana, I too have been treated for Lymes. 20 years ago or so, and it never went past the 1st stage syptoms. (so far)

We just dosed all our pets with FrontlinePlus on Friday. We adopted a shelter dog, and she brought fleas with her. ;-) We've always used FrontlinePlus, and never had an issue with Max's numbers, tho I am currently meter-less (old one was discontinued, and since he's OTJ I wasn't in that much of a hurry to get a new one...will be getting one later this week), so can't give proof-positive.
 
I have used Biospot on Cedric in the past - anyone else use this product?
Cedric is indoor, partly white, and I have never seen any bugs on him. He does have dry skin on occasion, but he gets a bath each year (loves it!). I like to use this product because it also repells mosquitos and we have alot of those here. The negative is the oily spot it leaves on his fur for a week.
I don't know about ticks. He's not an o/s cat and to be honest, I have never had an o/s cat nor would I know what a tick looks like. :smile:
 
Bob isn't an outside cat either, unless I count "on the screened porch" as outside. He loves going out there for the sun and breeze, and to watch "the wild things". I think he believes he'd catch that bird if only the bird could figure out how to come in through the screen.
I'm starting to think there's something beyond ticks involved however. For the past few days, he's been scratching a lot. I've been doing my best spider monkey imitiation, sitting there on the floor and going through his fur trying to pick out bugs that aren't even there. I haven't found any ticks, no fleas, no mites, nothing.
But he's been scratching a lot, around his ears, cheeks and neck mostly. Of course, there are the scabs and claw marks as a result, and I'm sure those itch.
This corresponds with suspension of insulin injections, which has me curious. I'm not going to jinx, but Bob's last shot was on the evening of the 19th (.5u). Great numbers since then with regular and spot BG tests, no signs of anything bad. No dehyrdation, great appetite, no irregular litter boxes suprises, no increased water consumption. Still doing the "5 Ps".
But it's like he's Jonesin' for a shot, like a heroin addict going cold turkey!

He's got a vet visit tomorrow, so I'll find out what they think. And I'm going to get Frontline or Advantage or something anyway, since the potential for ticks is there.
Anyone else see this sort of behavior when the insulin stops?

I am working on getting my lani screened in this summer/fall, so you are right, more frequent applications of something will be needed.
I don't notice him itching any more frequently than before he went OTJ (last injection was May 21). Make it clear to the vet that you have noticed this and see what they say. he might need an oatmeal beth or something.
