Tia is in the hospital

Tia stopped eating and drinking on Wednesday/Thursday. Her BG was in the 250 range, we tried syringe feeding her. We took her to the vet on Friday morning. Vet advised us to take her to the 24 hour hospital. Tia has been in the hospital for almost 24 hours now. Vet said that the diabetes is not really the problem. They have ruled out kidney failure, liver failure, pancreatitis, etc.. They said that her intestines were the problem and it could be severe bowel inflammation or lymphoma. She had started drinking water, but her body temp is down and her sodium levels are completely out of whack.
Vet called this morning to ask me to come in and "discuss my options" - is this code for putting her down?
 
Tia's hospital vet just called back and said Tia's condition has improved. She is more alert and tried to bite one of the techs. Her blood pressure was too low when she came in yesterday and now it's too high. They will treat the blood pressure situation with medication.
 
If it is inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or lymphoma, treatment may include a steroid. If this is the case, daily dosing will keep the glucose more predictable than alternate day dosing. If the vet prefers alternate day dosing, you may need to adjust the PZI a bit higher on those days.

In the situation of IBD, some folks have found the cat did much better on a raw diet.

Hospital vet just called back and said that Tia has started eating and her sodium level and blood pressure have come down to normal range. She said it was an acute issue that they are treating with antibiotics. Vet did not mention lymphoma or IBD on the last call.
Tia is still really weak so we will leave her overnight at the animal hospital (24 hour care facility), and then perhaps take her home tomorrow (fingers crossed).

I picked up Tia from the animal hospital last night. Her electrolytes, temp, blood pressure, etc. all stabilized. They never made a definitive diagnosis. She is at home now on antibiotics.
 
I just went back and re-read the original post and something clicked. I'm neither a doctor nor a vet but I know enough about human physiology to be dangerous. I wonder if it could have been a thyroid storm, especially with the high temperature.....I had to laugh at the "tried to bite a tech". You know a cat's really sick when it's a GOOD thing she tried to bite someone!!

I'm so glad you have her back where she belongs!!:woot::bighug:
 
Good job, Tia! So glad she's recovering nicely! That's what we definitely want to hear. And coming home to familiar surroundings always helps even more. Lots of hugs and best wishes to both of you!
