Well, I don't know what to do with her. She gets crappy #'s on 1.4 but when I raise the dose I get an inverse curve, then today she continually had a steady increase. I made an appt to see a new vet next Thurs. It's probably about 45 mins away if the traffic gods are with me but I got a good recommendation from a long time member here that I just discovered lives in VB. I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch to Lantus, this is just not working & I'll never know till I try. I might have the same problem but I'm just not getting anywhere with Pro Zinc. I have to try for Thumper's sake. :YMSIGH:

I think you have given it the good fight, Barbara and a change to Lantus is a good idea. Fingers and paws crossed that it works for you and Thumper.

Hi Barbara. I'm sorry to hear that Thumper and his pancreas are not cooperating and good luck with the switch over. Would it be possible to briefly tell why you're choosing a switch to Lantus v. another insulin? I'm just trying to get as much information as possible in case the day comes when Beauregard has to go back on insulin - if Prozinc doesn't work next time, what's a mom to do? You're the first post I've noticed contemplating a change since I started considering that question a few days ago. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I wish I could give you an educated answer but I can't. I have thought of changing insulins before but I hate change & was just scared to do it. I found someone who lives sorta close to me & I'm going to try her vet & they both like Lantus. She also mentioned Levemir (did I spell that right?) but I'm just going to take the vet and Carolyn's advice whatever that may end up being. I just know something's gotta change. Lots of people have said other people have switched & they have the same trouble with other insulins but I need to give it a try. Here's hoping you never have to make that decision!

I'm so happy for you that you found a good vet referal, your vet has been part of the problem since the beginning, not to mention a seasoned veteran from this board near by.

I'll have all paws and fingers crossed that Thumper likes Lantus better and turns around for you.

Please keep us updated.

OK Iread an article today and tried to post but could not
I have been debating on posting cause it applies to humans...and did not say anything about animals....
but the article stated that Lantus has been shown to cause certain cancer in humans
They are doing all kinds of research now on this but I want ed to let you know

I will try to repost tomorrow
sorry

Hard to imagine a PZI ville, without a Barbara and a Thumper

Barbara, of course you have to do what you believe is the best thing for Thumper, and everyone feels that way. We want her and you to succeed. You know of course that now that you have mentioned switching "out loud", Thumper is going to throw you yet another curve ball or three ;-)
I wish you the best. I'm going to miss your sense of humor, so please don't be a stranger?
Almost afraid to ask this question, but TR or RL? Just wondering so I'll know which forum to lurk in.

You are right about the vet, it's just hard to leave after being there 16yrs. I might only take Thumper over...it's an awful drive due to an over congested bridge I have to cross. I'm going on the 15th cause I'm off. BTW, you aren't rid of me yet! And you know I have to come around to see if Sarah ever lets Kim post anymore!
This feels like home to me......

Thanks for the info BJM!

Denise, are you trying to scare me into staying? Do post the article if you can, or tell me where to find it.

Did it work?

no but I couldnt not tell you, sorry

but I do wish you luck on which ever way you choose to go
and good luck with your new vet

We wish you the best Barbara, no matter what you decide to do. Having a good vet means all the world. We are now driving 45 mins to ours but it is so worth it.
I know how hard it is to make decisions like this. Once you have a heart to heart with the vet, you’ll know what you have to do.
Keep us posted.

I think someone posted a link just now on the Health forum to that story.....(I didn't click on the link)

Barbara, Sarah must be making Kim drive the bus or something..... sure could use Kim's presence more often... There's a question on Health about P-titis that I can't help with either.....

Hey, this is home to you, so we expect regular updates.

Barbara,
We started posting about the same time. I will surely miss you and Thumper here in PZI Land. Hope you find some answers. And if you do, maybe Alex and I will follow you (in that same boat).

But, I'm not really leaving....can't get rid of me that easy!

Kim! Where are you? Tell Sarah you're need here & you have to quit!

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone but I'm not leaving. It makes me sad to think about leaving. I don't know what I would have done without all of you since April. And all the laughs! I'm glad we started with Pro Zinc, otherwise I would not have had the pleasure of getting to know all of you. :YMHUG:

Good luck Barbara with whatever you decide about changing to a different insulin.
I hope you will like the new vet and get a fresh perspective about Thumper's treatment.
We will miss you so be sure you check in on us and keep us updated on Thumper.

Sarah says "Hi!"....... and she and I both hope that Lantus works wonders for Thumper!

Good Luck with the new vet!

One more thing...... How is Petunia doing?!!!
