Oh ok, so the big drop was R. Well... yeah. So she probably wouldn't drop that hard or anywhere close on PZI.

You are at +7 in the morning, so I would shoot definitely a lower dose than normal regardless of the PS, ignore what I said before - +7 is different than +8. I would guesstimate no more than 0.8, and if the PS is around or under 200 I would only shoot 0.5. Hopefully some others will chime in with advice tonight and/or be around in the morning to help you decide. +7 is pretty early, but if possible I think you should keep some insulin in her system.

Be sure to get a rising # check also. If you can, test when you get up and then again before shooting (I'd shoot as late as you can in your morning routine). If you can't space out the tests, then get 2 tests 10 minutes apart to be sure she is rising.

If you are really freaked out and she isn't high, it's not the end of the world to skip the shot, or shoot something like 0.2 or 0.4 just to keep a little something in her. Those doses are often fairly ineffective even on a low PS, so I wouldn't give that if you are comfortable giving more. Just mentioning it so you aren't totally tearing your hair out in the morning. :)

Ketones are 0 and she is unlikely to hypo on these low doses and given her #s are running higher, so there is a lot of margin for error in both directions. I would stick to no more than 0.8 on a +7 shot, and as long as she is over say 200 I would shoot at least 0.4. I think anything in those bounds will be safe.

See what others say too.... AND.... try to get some good sleep tonight! You have earned it!

Joanna laid it out all real well, go by the #'s and doses she mentions, they sound very reasonable. Just take a deep breath and it will all be fine. Sometimes, I take a recorder with me because when you hear certain things all the emotions make you forget. Or take a paper/pencil .... smart phone or whatever and write down what he says. Then read it over before he leaves and see if you have any more questions. Also ask him if he has an email address if you have any questions later. Good luck and let us know when you get home.

Barbara, you are doing great. Sorry I disappeared last night, I've been having a stomach bug. But lots of people are committed to helping you. Can you imagine how people who have not found this site manage?!!! Hope things go well at the vet.
My cat had something that sounds like your breathing thing, and my vet never figured it out, but didn't think it was anything. Sometimes I thought it might even be related to her purring. Was weird. Checked her heart and there was no indication of a problem.

No, Judy I can't imagine and I think other cats just die and they don't really understand why! Sorry you are feeling bad!

Some just luck out too - I think they say 1/3 of cats will go OTJ virtually no matter what their beans do (with insulin). I know someone who told me their cat had been diabetic, the vet put them on prescription food and sent them home shooting 1u 2x/day, a few months later their vet told them their cat wasn't diabetic anymore and they should stop the insulin. :-D I just kept my mouth shut (it's someone I am rarely in contact with) and wished them well. I wonder sometimes if a lot of the cats who come here are ones that are more complicated - I know I started doing research after months of not being able to get Bix regulated (dry food.... hello) and that prompted me to do the research. But according to some study I remember reading, even a certain % of cats on W/D (uber-high-carb) go OTJ with insulin. So go figure.
