She seems about the same, just laying around. Problem is my Hyper T civvie hasn't eaten all day. Always something!
 
I wonder why Thumper is starting to get those higher PMPS's.

Civie, start eating, mama bean can't take another vet visit. nom nom nom.

It sounds like you guys are now getting the heat that I had earlier this week, I don't envy you, it was miserable.

I shot a "fat".8 tonight. Should I go up to .9 or just go ahead & go back up to 1 Unit? Today was second day on antibiotics. I'm hoping the higher numbers are from whatever is going on with her & will get lower as the antibiotic works. I'm really starting to worry about her....trying to find info on the internet and none of it sounds good. I didn't get to talk to the vet today. I stopped by there this morning & it was very busy so I just left. And Callie still didn't eat tonight. :sad: I need something more than wine....like drugs!
 
I would judge your dose by your PS #. If lower stay the course, if higher raise.

When you talk to your vet ask about appetite stimulants for your civie, Fortiflora and there is another one you can use. She needs to eat soon.

Can you assist feed your civvie, Barbara? Do you know how? You definitely don't want FHL to deal with on top of her other problem. Fortiflora is a probiotic, I thought, not an appetite stimulant? It can be tough on stomachs, I've heard. I haven't used it, but have seen discussions on some of the email lists I'm a member of. The appetite stimulants I've heard about are mirtzapine and cyproheptidine. Cypro though can cause howling and agitation, while mirtzapine isn't given every day as it builds up in the system. I've not used either, since my cats problems with inappetance have been caused by nausea, so I treated that instead. From what I understand though, methimazole can cause anorexia so an appetite stimulant may be required. We've been concerned about hyperT with Shaikha actually, but so far she's tested fine thank goodness.
 
Huh. I didn't expect her to be shootable this morning. Oh well ohmygod_smile Gotz to be unpredictable I guess, LOL.

I would probably go with 0.9. If you do 1u on a PS under 400 I would want to get in some monitoring. 0.8 doesn't look enough. I'm thinking maybe try 0.9 and if that doesn't cut it go to 1u on a day when you can monitor? You may just have to play around with it a little. I would experiment with a little more though like you are doing, hopefully get back to those greens!
 
Agree. You have had a few variables thrown into the mix that may or may not have influenced your numbers. Sticking around that one unit dose for awhile will hopefully give you some prettier colors.

I don't know what assist feeding is, and what is FHL? Good news is she ate this morning...I had a little talk with her last night & told her I don't need amymore problems! :smile:

And Joanna, you're right about that unpredictable stuff!
 
That's great she is eating!!! Sometimes when they aren't feeling well they will eat out of your hand, but not otherwise. One of my civies was like that after she had dental a couple years ago. I had never heard of it, but someone here told me about it. She ate that way for a couple weeks before she would eat normally out of a dish.

Assist feeding means you help your cat eat when they are unwilling or unable to. Cat metabolisms are such that if they go too long not eating sufficient calories, their livers get messed up and develop fatty liver disease, or feline hepatic lipidosis (FHL). FHL can be very sneaky -- just a little anorexia over a long enough period and you've got big trouble. Often times our cats when they feel poorly will just eat a little less for a long while. The owner may realize they lost some weight, but won't realize how much until it is too late and the liver is compromised. FHL is a nasty disease that usually has poor outcomes unless the owner can get a LOT of food into the cat continually throughout the day for a very long period, so the easiest way to avoid it is prevention. If you know your cat has a chronic illness and isn't eating as it should, or if you know they are taking meds that will make their appetites more poor, assist feeding is a way to keep calorie intake high enough to prevent problems. I've done this with my GA Tabriz as well as with Shaikha when she's got pancreatitis attacks. Basically you take canned cat food and blend it with extra water to make a slurry, then strain to remove chunks and put in syringes. You put a little bit on their tongues and let them swallow, let it settle and repeat. Some people call it "force" feeding but it shouldn't be. While it is odd for the cat (and owner) at first, they settle into the routine. Tabriz and Shaikha both purred when fed. There are many techniques for doing this, but the best source of info is the Feline Assisted Feeding list on Yahoogroups. When Tabriz crashed, he couldn't eat at all because his BUN and phosphorus were so high. Initially we put in a feeding tube since he couldn't eat without vomiting. After he got better we were able to remove the tube, but I still had to assist feed at times when he was feeling more punky than usual. I knew how much food he needed to eat each day, so if he wasn't able to do so I just assist fed the remainder. I do the same with Shaikha if she's feeling poorly as well. There are videos on YouTube that show some good techniques (some better than others -- let me know if you wish to view any and I'll give some links).
