I'm just about at the end of my rope. She just doesn't look good & at one point sometime in the middle of the night I even thought...is she miserable? :cry:

For those of you who were helping me last night with dosing...I realized this morning I didn't shoot .5 it was .2 just because I'm not thinking clearly! So here's the stats:
11:00 pm - 361

again I forgot what I was doing & went ahead & fed her :roll:

I was waiting as long as I could to test again & she went off & hid...I couldn't find her...I was starting to panic...you know what they say about them hiding..I know where she was now but couldn't see her, she hates the phone beeping so an hour later I got her out by making the phone beep! so..

I need some drugs...not wine! :smile: I just hope this vet has some answers for us! If he says it's all diabetes I'm gonna scream!

Joanna said something last night about the R insulin, did I understand her right that that's what probably caused the big drop and she wouldn't get that drop from Pro Zinc? If so it makes me even madder that the ER said not to give her insulin till she was over 400. Why wouldn't they know the big drop was because of the R? I really wanted to know about that so I could bring that up with the internist also.
 
I'm so sorry, Barbara. It could be something as simple as an electrolyte imbalance. You have the consult with the specialist today, right? Try to hang in until then. I know you must be sick with worry though.

I'm certainly no expert, but with her levels being higher like this it seems she could take more insulin than that, but I also don't know much about putting PZI on top of R, though I thought the other was a fast-acting insulin that didn't have a very long duration. Hopefully your specialist today can sort it out for you. I'm glad you are getting in today. Keep us posted!
 
What tome do you go today?

Kitty has gotten R at the ER numerous times. My understanding is it is quick acting, but has very little duration. Nancy uses R some-- she can explain it's effects better.
 
Barbara, calm down, hopefully there will be some answers today .... ER uses R insulin and unless your leaving ER and want them to give a shot of your regular insulin (pzi,L,L) all they will use is R. I use R all the time to fight ketones but I wouldn't use on Thumper because she is really sensitive to insulin and would drop too hard.
R is fast acting, usually kicks in 2-4 hrs. but only lasts short time, so you can shoot more insulin into dire situations.

Remember to take something to write things down and see if he has a email that you can ask questions later. IF the vet decides to do anything, make him explain it all to you so you understand before he does it and if it sounds ..... stupid you can say no. You can do this because you track all kinds of things with her now, and do it very well. My prayers go with you today. Nancy
