AMPS - 331

Shot 1.2 again

I only got a + 3.5 last night & it was 331, odd that it was the same as AMPS. I was sure I was going to take her to the vet this morning, even got up early to get there when they opened. I can't really say for sure why I decided not to other than the fact I guess she's not really acting that much different than when she was there on Wed. She is eating well & I was looking at her SS from the last time she was on ab's it looks kinda like it was 6 days before her #'s started coming down. I don't really know what I'm thinking. I go back & forth between maybe I'm over reacting (cause I'm a worrier - geez I didn't worry this much about my kids!) or am I not wanting to hear what they have to say, then there's the "vet shy" syndrome...what else are they gonna do at this point? They did chest xray, EKG, blood work. Then I realized it's Monday & they are always swamped after being closed Sunday, so I decided to just wait another day to see how she does. I don't really think it's an emergency or I would be there. I hope I'm making the right decision! Can ya'll tell I have a hard time making decisions?

I completely understand how you feel!

Hopefully, today will be a good day for Thumper!

Always listen to your gut!
so dont worry to much I am sure you did the right thing!

+6 - 135
PMPS - 190

Should I wait & retest? And what should I shoot? 1.1 last night she stayed high...today was 1.2

retested & she's going down - 173. I'm gonna hold off another 20 mins...they aren't begging yet. They had food @ 2:00 today so I guess they aren't that hungry. Now I really don't know what to shoot.

If she's rising in 20 mins instead of still dropping her shot will be around +12.5 I will still have time to wait 12 hrs before I shoot in the morning but if I shoot 1.2 again will she have a shootable # in the morning? Am I making sense?

If I can offer a suggestion, that I would find helpful---if you could list the days numbers in your email so it would be right there and then it would not be necessary to switch back and forth from your SS as much. Sorry, don't mean to make additional work for you. Maybe the others don't need it, but I find it helps to have the day's numbers right in front of me.

I understand

AMPS - 331
shot 1.2
+ 6 - 135
pmps - 190
15 mins later 173

But last night when I shot 1.1 into a PS of 207 she got up to 331 at +4 then had the same for AMPS

I think I am being slow, now I don't understand. Could you spell it out for me? And the bottom line is to listen to yourself, just use me to help you think it through.

It's probably the way I'm typing it. I reduced to 1.1 cause on Sun AM it seemed like she might have been low. I shot 1.1 into a PMPS of 207 & then her #'s went over 300. Then you can see todays #'s above. Also, she dropped from a 190 to 173 in 20 mins tonight so that's why I"m waiting another 20 mins. If I go ahead & shoot 1.2 I guess I'm afraid I won't have a shootable # in the AM but it also looked like 1.1 wasn't enough. confused_cat

If you mean that 85 was low---that doesn't seem so low to me. Unless you are concerned about the amount of drop. But don't let me pressure you into anything you are scared of. You are there and have much more of an accurate sense of all that is occurring than I do.

I guess cause I rarely see green they scare me. I'm gonna go ahead with 1.2 we need to keep away from the ketones also. Unless you see anything wrong with that?

Numbers below 50 should definitely scare you. 85 is a BEAUTIFUL number. Squamee once went down to 35 when I had just started testing, and brought herself up on the food I had around.

Sorry, I always freak out when her #'s go low & I've been really confused by the high ones lately...like last night. her #'s today were good but I was again surprised that she was under 200 then she dropped after 20 mins. Seems like she's all over the map. You mean do some tests later? I will def. be doing that. Thanks you! I know I'm a mess! :?

If you add in meter variability (20%),she really is not so all over the place . And
I think you are doing a great job. It is nerve wracking to feel you have your animal's life in your hands. What comforted me was the realization that as long as she was able to eat, she seemed quite able to correct her BG with food.

Hey Messy Barbara!

Just test some tonight-- you will be fine.

You do have some higher carb food just in case you would ever need it--- right ?

Don't get me worried Kim! LOL! Yes, I have med & HC food.

Judy, I never think about meter variability! I always leave food out but there's always that nagging thought in the back of my mind that Petey will eat it all. He's such a pig. I wish she would perk up a bit, she kinda acts depressed.

I used to keep a few cans around that I had carb numbers written on with magic marker (13%,18%, 24% etc.). So when I was nervous I had the exact info at my fingrtips. If she starts going low, which I really don't think will happen, don't go right to high carb. Give her a little med. Carb--not too much, because you will want her to eat more if you need to give higher carb.

Last time she got around 50 I just fed her regular food but I have some 6% & 18% but I will hold that for really low #'s. Guess I need to get some in between those #'s.

If she gets to 50 you could start with a little low carb and test, if that doesn't bring her up a little then go to 8% carbs, etc.

Last week Harley gave me a 35  I fed him his regular raw food and he came up just fine.

So what did you shoot?

When you do bring her back to the vet I would INSIST that they address the ketone issue. You don't need the stress and worry of that hanging over your head This day to day stuff is stressful enough.

They really act like it's no big deal. I've seen 3 different vets there & they all say it's not a problem when she's just showing trace.

I haven't looked at Harleys SS but I guess he's doing good on the new insulin?

I shot 1.2

(((((Barbara))))) You are doing great!!! I get the same way you sound - seesawing back and forth between different options, going in circles, talking myself down from the freakouts and then getting freaked out again! LOL It is a tough road, but hang in there. Remember too that you are doing AMAZING things even just caring for her the way you are. You are not a vet, you are not super-human, and you don't have to get everything right. You just do the best you can at each step, and pat yourself on the back, and give her some snuggles and let it be at that.

She may have been higher last night b/c the shot was later. Generally the insulin loses a little oomph on a late shot, so the 1.1 might have been more like 1u in its effect. Possible explanation, could be something else.

When you get a PS again like this between 150 and 200 you might pull back to 1.1 if you are going to shoot right away at +12, or stick with 1.2 if you end up shooting a little later after a retest or two. Just a thought.

The 1.2 looks to me like a good dose to get her down from a higher PS, and it may be a good dose on lower PSs, or it may be just a hair too strong (but not really dangerous or anything, you haven't gotten anywhere close to low numbers). So it's just a matter of doing what feels best to you, and then if you can, or if you are worried, get in some spot tests. And have a glass of wine maybe.

Glad I stuck with the 1.2 now just waiting this out, hopefully she will start to act better soon.
