I stuck with .5 if it's in the 200's tonight I might go back to .6? I left a message for the vet to call me. Hopefully I wll get some good answers from her cause the ketone strips are still saying trace. She is eating & acting fine though.

Sounds okay, Barbara. Yes, I think I would go back up to .6 depending on whether you see anything different today. Have you tried adding some water to the wet food to help keep her hydrated?

Noticed you were thinking about the PrecisionXtra. We used it and got lucky getting it free with a rebate at Walgreens. Then we bought the strips on ebay. I never had to use the ketone strips but think they are in seperate packages so it seems like they would last awhile. I imagine that ketone strips for it are also available on ebay. (It is senior citizens who usually sell diabetic supplies on ebay. Medicare just routinely sends them out and they get too many to use.)

agree with sue...aim for some green. .6 if the number allows.
darn those trace ketones.
i was really hoping it was just your imagination but you've seen them too many times now huh?
sooooo. keep kitty as hydrated as possible. actually you can almost turn that canned food into a gravy like consistancy.
so tired this am
and i'm off to the dr. myself which i HATE to do.... cat(2)_steam

Heard back from the vet....no help. She said I might be getting trace ketones cause I'm changing doses too much. I asked about a blood test & she said they had never done one & she doesn't know how much it would cost. ohmygod_smile Said I shouldn't worry unless she's showing symptoms or if it goes higher. This is the best part.....said I was testing TOO much!!! She kept saying they don't usually do curves that often....told her I'm not doing curves every day since I'm not home. BTW, she has a copy of my SS. I told her I test AMPS & PMPS (explained what that was) and she said it wasn't necessary to test that often. I brought it to her attention the few times Thumper has gone below 100...what if I had shot a higher dose...that I wouldn't have known & she might have gone hypo. She said the 88 wasn't low enough to be dangerous. Well, I know that but if I wasn't testing I wouldn't know...prime example the person last night. She said I'm shooting lower than what they usually go...usually only do 1/2 units. I gave up....told her ok but that I was mostly concerned about the ketones. She said I should increase but I didn't even ask how much. I'm going back to .6 tonight & will just keep testing ketones with the pee strip while I'm looking for the Precision Xtra Meter. :YMSIGH:

My vet (who I like) once told me I was going to make an enemy of my cat by testing so often. In a very no-nonsense voice, I looked her square in the eye and calmly told her that Sam doesn't cry or flinch when he's tested, never runs from me, instead he sits calmly on the counter without being held and usually purrs through the whole thing AND that while she might not agree with it, he was my cat and as I was the one paying his bills, I was going to do what I thought was in his best interest.

We've never had that discussion again.

Wow, checked 3 stores locally & couldn't find the Precision Xtra meter so I called their 800 # and they are sending me the meter for free! Now, I just gotta go find some ketone test strips. They had the strips on the shelf at Wal Mart & they expired in 2010! Did I read something somewhere about a recall on the strips?

Hey, good deal! I would call and ask Walgreens/CVS. That's where we got our first batch, and then check ebay for more if you need them.

Sue, I saw some on Ebay for cheap but I think I read about some sort of recall so I'm not sure about getting those. I need to go check but I gotta do a PMPS right now. BRB

Hey Barbara,
Hang in there, I know how frustrating the vet can be!
I am on my 4th one in one year!
(but I finally like this one even though she is not as versed on diabetes, but she is going to seminars to learn)
which I think is awesome!
so anyway, hang in there and just trust everyone on this site (except me, I dont give advice cause I am still clueless!

Denise and Shakes

i called the 800 number and they are sending me free ketone stix for ummmmm, kitty who's mama bean is overseas.
ask them to mail you that too!

Lori, I mix water in with the food & make it like gravy. I will have to call them back & ask about the ketone strips! Guess I should clarify, I've been shooting .5 was planning on going to .6 but wondering if I should go higher?

go for it.
it would be nice to see what she's been doing all day #'s wise....but i doubt bouncing.
and please...no freaking out if she goes green on you k? maybe get a pretty 80 or something

I need to have nerves of steel like the person last night! Ok, going with .6 and I gotta run out to an appt. Thanks!

your not the only one Barbara...the concept is so widely used they just abbreviate it, it's called BOS.

always safe BOS. as long as you have glucometer, HC food in stock, a little honey, these micro dose changes are really not playing it fast and lose. it's hard to imagine anything really earthshattering could happen.
and i guess going green tonight would be too large a drop so lets hope for a low blue at nadir.
or close to it.
i mean ... don't stay up all night or anything like that ok.

Yeah, we're not heading for green tonight.... +2 is 290.

Exactly Judy! And after she encouraged me to home test. Why in the world would I shoot blind after knowing how to test? I do get that I have changed the dose a lot but I pretty much felt like I was following the #'s. I just don't know what I'm gonna do. Nothing right now though cause I'm leaving town next week for 5 days.

BTW, has anyone heard from Robin? I haven't seen her on in a couple of days?

+4 - 195 that's seems like a big drop for 2 hrs? I was going to bed....do I need to get a +6 ? And should I stick with .6 for AM shot?

Let's see who else is here. IMHO it would be good to have another test but not essential. You are not into really low numbers. I would stck with the .6 in the am unless you test again and get a low nadir or your amps is low.

I will be back...gonna go take care of a few things but don't think I can stay up another hr & 40 mins. I'm already pushin it. Why can't I survive on no sleep? ;-)

i'm here... and i think i found rob. she just sent me this pm.
if this is true just tell me and i'll step off ok.

if you still want me out...just say the word.
i am just saying what i think IMHO

Oh my....I'm taking Judi's advice & going to sleep. I don't even know what to say. :? Hmmmm....maybe the PM shouldn't be published here? No offense to anyone.....just sayin. :YMPEACE:
