Has anyone had a cat throw a clot that landed in a front leg?
What was the outcome?
I’ve familiar with (and have seen firsthand) a saddle thrombus but I’m not familiar with the same thing impacting a front leg.
I’m sitting in the ER with a civvie who apparently threw a clot today. She was fine one minute, then suddenly wobbled and went down with her front leg curled sideways and lost use of it. She immediately started crying (not screaming), most likely from extreme pain. Local vet sent us to speciality ICU where the clot was diagnosed. Lactate in that foot is 20x normal and speculation is that there’s an underlying cardiac or kidney issue, undiagnosed, that triggered the clot. Prognosis is poor; recurrence is likely.
I would have very little doubt about the correct course of action were this a saddle thrombus affecting her hind legs. It’s a showstopper and I would have euthanized on the spot at the local vet clinic. But the local vet didn’t initially think it was a clot and the front leg impact threw us both off.
I’ll be saying goodbye in a few minutes. Just questioning whether there was something I missed.
