Hello everyone :cat:
I did my first curve on my boy yesterday and the Vet just called with increased dosage. She recommended I increase it by a whole unit though and what I keep reading is it's better to increase slowly. Maury was on 1.5U every 12 hours and the Vet said increase to 2.5U and do another curve in a week. I was thinking I should just increase to 2U for like 3 days, do another curve, then go to 2.5U. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance! :)

I agree.

- How long was Maury on 1 1/2 units?
- It is good that you are home testings and have set up a SS>. Most of us here test before each shot and periodically between shots. We record our reading and other info in the spreadsheet. S
- What are you feeding? A low-carb canned is best. No reason for a prescription food. Here is a list of commercial low-carb canned

Unfortunately, there are too many vets who are not well versed in feline diabetes these days.
My vet started my cat on 2 units of vetsulin and I nearly had to take him to emergency vet. I found this site first and it literally saved his life. I would not increase by more than half a unit at the most. You are the one living with your kitty 24 hours a day, not your vet.
I have found that the folks on this site are more knowledgeable than most vets are.

Lisa, you are so right. The sad part about that is the needless suffering endured by both cat and owner. Fortunately for my cat and me, I did my homework on this site. I have been fortunate to find this community of feline experts to guide me through uncharted territory.

Oh wow, well done! And you've set up an SS too. Great stuff! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I absolutely agree that the dose increase shouldn't be more than half a unit.

Yong, can you clarify exactly what you're feeding Maury at the moment? Is Maury still eating some higher carb food?
If Maury is still eating some higher carb food then another option at this point could be to begin to reduce the carb content of the diet instead of increasing insulin dose. Reducing the carb content of the diet can reduce the blood glucose significantly in some cats.

Be aware too that the curve is just a 'snapshot' of what happens on one given day. ...You may have been lucky and caught a fairly 'typical' day. But there is a possibility that these high numbers aren't a 'typical day', or that they have been caused by a bounce (a response to lower numbers that the cat's body wasn't comfortable with). All will become clear as you gather more data.

Are you also posting on the Prozinc/PZI forum for dosing advice? There are some experienced folks there who can help you.

Again, well done!
