So occasionally Mus will have blocks of blue in his chart. I'm not too happy with that, but they usually stay in the low blues. This morning the meter read 102 mg/dL. Then, while I was out later in the evening, my mother tested him before dinner and said that the meter read 151 mg/dL. She tried testing again and got an error (I'm assuming because she didn't have enough blood on the test strip). I was immediately worried, but told her to just feed him (as I'm sure stressing him out by drawing blood a third time wouldn't help). This was at around 6pm. I got home and tested him again 3 hours later at 9pm. Meter read 116 mg/dL this time.

Should I be concerned? Should I test him again at 12?

UPDATE: Tested him again at 12 am and it's now down to 84 mg/dL.

Was Mus ever on insulin? There is nothing in the signature to say he was on insulin or if he was, what type of insulin.
Was he ever diagnosed as a diabetic?
Did they do a fructosamine test?

I believe they possibly did a fructosamine test when he first went in with symptoms. It wasn't really explained to me, all I was told was that he was definitely diabetic with no chance of remission (that no cat in that practice had ever achieved remission and to not get my hopes up). I'll link the post here, but I had some issues with that vet. I had only ever given him the one shot of Novolin and stopped. Apologies for the late reply!

I can't be certain, but my mother suspects he may have eaten a crumb or something off the ground which gave him that spike.

He’s looking good. An occasional spike can be due to eating close to the test or something he should not have.

It's possible that that's what happened and that I was possibly panicking over nothing. I test him often and his BG hadn't been that high in so long that I got worried. Thank you for your response!

Cats eating "contraband" is a very good reason for a rise in blood glucose numbers. If something scared Mus, stress can also raise numbers. The other reason that numbers can jump -- although you'd see this over more than one or two tests -- is if there's an infection or inflammation. For many cats that are in remission, if they need a dental, they can sometimes fall out of remission.

I've been trying to be more mindful about not having 'contraband' anywhere accessible. Although he's pretty clever about sneaking around, so far his numbers haven't been bad (I'll have to update today). He could also really use a dental, in my opinion, but the vet said putting him under for a dental would be too risky at this point and he'd prefer not to do it. Any advice about this would be greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, Mus isn't a big fan of getting his teeth brushed.
