Thomas is having a really bad day!!!

I reduced his 1 unit BID to 0,75, or at least I tried - because it is impossible to find syringes with 0.5 unit marked in here.

In the last days Thomas had a great appetite. I didn't managed to test him in the last days because I am running off tests and money and I wanted to give him the chance to regulate with his new dose and than make him a curve in a free day.

This morning at 4 am he vomited. I was unable to test because he was nervous. At 7 am his sugar was 255 mg. He refused to eat and I didn't shot the insulin. During the day he licked a little bit of yogurt and Bozita. He vomited a few times. At 7 pm his sugar was 289 mg. I shot him a anti-vomit.

The vet suspects a renal issue, I suspect a hypo and the effect of bouncing in the last days?


I have to mention: I used to test Thomas using his paws. After reading in here that a user obtained different values from different paw I ran the tests today from his ear.

It also might be pancreatitis. It is common in some diabetic cats and does cause stomach issues and nonappetite. Here is some info. Do any of the symptoms sound like Thomas?

Some symptoms of do match with the ones of hypos. He has no abdominal pain, I can't sense any hard formation in his abdomen and, as far as I know, in pancreatitis the feces are filled with undigested food-which is not the case.
I changed his food more than a week ago and he had a few days with huge bumps.

The problem is that I blind shot-I don't have money to buy tests right now- I saved a few for situations like this.

They also say that the BG are high in pancreatitis, but he was 255 in the morning and 289 now.

I hope it is a hypo and not pancretitis, because I can't afford blood tests right now.

Did any more experienced user had similar issues? He drank water an hour ago and didn't vomit it yet.
 
If he is experiencing any excess acid in his stomach, that may also contribute to vomiting. This may happen for a number of different reasons. We use Pepcid AC (generic name is Famotidine), 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet.



Also, remember that symptoms like constipation may vary from cat to cat, so not finding a symptom does not rule out a diagnosis.

He is sleeping right now. I will see how he evolves in the morning. I breaks my heart, because if he does have pancreatitis I really don't want him to suffer.
 
Proper pain meds can help with that considerably, as the primer on pancreatitis notes.
