Today was Lulu's first day all in green... he's my December 1st Leprechan!!! This was also his first 24 hrs without insulin. I went to give him one drop last night, and he look at me. I swear he said please don't. I didn't take this look to mean he didn't want a shot. It was as if he was telling me he didn't need it, and did not want to feel the insulin in his system. So I pulled up all the food overnight and he looked really good this morning. Stayed under 100 all day. cat_pet_icon

Tonight I will pull the food up again, test in the morning. Please keep your paw crossed for him.

All those greens and blues look beautiful! I would make sure there is wet lo carb food out during the day for him to snack on - the food should stimulate the pancreas to work. As you say, it's a test and it will give you data. This is a work in progress and we aren't much help, as so few of us have used N. You are doing a great job!
 
Paws are crossed! Come on Lulu you can do this just keep giving your momma those nice green numbers! We are all cheering you on, cuz we love doing the OTJ dance. :-D

Today has been an all new low... all on his own. Yippy! I did buy a fresh thingy of insulin yesterday just in case, but he looks to be leveling off and slowing heading towards positive numbers.

Yay!!! My Sue is newly off the juice. If he doesn't eat all night (i always have low carb wet food out) he is in the blue in the morning. After he eats, right back to the green!

Is it ok that he is hovering around 100 most of the day? I can tell his system is slow, so I worry about stressing it, but we are/were using Humulin N and these numbers would be dangerous for him just to smell. There is a chart I have seen that would call his numbers (off insulin) in the nondiabetic range.

Whatcha think?
 
Just my opinion, but I would leave it alone. He is almost there - hovering below 100 most of the time, and giving a drop even could take him down too low. Here is the guide. (I do think most OTJ cats that I have seen run between 40 - 80 or so.)


Treated but not regulated [often above 300 (16.7) and rarely near 100 (5.6), poor clinical signs]
Regulated [generally below 300 (16.7) with glucose nadir near 100 (5.6), good clinical signs, no hypoglycemia]
Well regulated [generally below 200-250 (11.1-13.9) and often near 100 (5.6), no hypoglycemia]
Tightly regulated [generally below 150 (8.3) and usually in the 60-120 (3.3-6.7) range, no hypoglycemia, still receiving insulin]
Normalized [60-120 (3.3-6.7) except perhaps directly after meals -- usually not receiving insulin]
 
Thanks Sue.. that's kinda how I'm feeling. I think I am feeling guilty about not letting his body go into the 50's on insulin... always gave crunchies/food when he got into the 60's.. afraid I taught his body to avoid these numbers. I know that's probably nuts.
