Is it just me? I feel like every time I up her insulin her body says, "AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!" I thought we were having a good day as she spent some time under my bed with her wide eye and whiskers out. The only reason she got her AM shot is because I opened a window to tempt her little furry butt out from her newly re-discovered sleeping space. This didn't last long, hence why no spot checks today. Something just called her to her new-used spot. She used to sleep under my bed all the time. When I rearranged my bedroom some years ago, she had left a perfectly round furry spot on my tan carpet from her time spent shedding there.

Any thoughts on her? Perhaps another .5 unit raise?

On a lighter note, tonight I hit a sweet spot with the lancet. A huge droplet appeared, and I took my sample. Before I had time to put the kleenex on her, she shook her head. I looked like I had just stepped out of a horror movie. And yes, she was purring the whole time.
 
I'm not sure about the dose change, but I know exactly what you mean by blood getting everywhere. I always test Missy at my desk. That way, I can immediately plug her numbers into the spreadsheet on the computer so I don't forget. She shakes her head every single time and little droplets get everywhere. All over the desk, all over the computer screen... I always say if CSI ever shows up at my house for some reason with their blacklights and that spray that checks for blood, I'm going to have some explaining to do.

Have you decided what to shoot yet? I keep looking at your spreadsheet trying to come up with something. Missy is so low dose, I don't know what to do with kitties over half a unit. I would *probably* go up a little bit. I think I read previously if the PMPS is higher than the AMPS, that means the dose is too low, but I'm not 100% on that.

Hopefully, someone else will give you their thoughts. Otherwise, go with your gut and good luck with your decision.
 
I'm going to see what her AMPS is at. We just had a 10-40 ton chainsaw in the yard and she didn't run and hide. Really, I don't know what to think of that. She ran from the backhoe a few days ago, and she usually runs from loud noises that nature makes. Then again, the annoying neighbor typically runs his chainsaw a lot so maybe she is just "used" to the cutting sounds.

Though, if they bring out more machinery she might get startled and run. This is going to be our Summer/Fall life for the next few years I believe. How do you test/shoot a cat who is hiding under the steps?! Do you drag her out, or let her go?
 
Well I did speak too soon. She was hiding under the bed as the mobile chainsaw got closer to this side of the house. I had to drag her out twice. Her amps were 402 so I am not going to increase her dosage just yet. Peeps is now hiding in her not feeling well/I'm scared spot under the steps. The loud noises outside are going to be a way of life for us for the next month or so, and several summer/fall cycles to come.

OH MY! She is now up here eating. Now it feels like I've just been over-thinking everything again.

So now my concerns are - if she is going to be freaked out by the road construction daily, should I attempt to lock her up when I know her shot is coming to bypass the stress (for both of us) of ripping apart the basement steps to get her out? If she does get down there - do I wait until she comes out and give her a late shot, or try to get her out? I am hoping that all the cats will get "used to" the outside happenings, so it is not just Peeps and I who are upset about the construction.

I can't really move up her shots to get her dosed before "they" start working. On Monday they were banging around at 7:20 am. Yesterday they didn't bang around much, but their big trucks were beeping on and off from 9 am until 2pm. Today, they didn't start until about 8:45.

Edited to add: We're not SUPPOSED to lose our power, but our huge trees are kind of in the power line. The power company is also planning on burying our power cables (I am not sure when). If the power goes out - do I go grab some ice and put the insulin on ice? Should I wrap it up first so it's not laying on frozen goods in the cooler? If it is going to be a *short* outage, do I just leave it in the fridge?
 
How do you know if it will be a long power outage or not?

I've heard to keep it in a cooler with ice or ice pack, wrapped in a towel so it doesn't freeze.
 
I am assuming with the *short* outage, that they'll warn us that there might be a hiccup in power when they flip the switch after the lines are buried from the overhead power lines.

Though, they have already proved to be idiots for the last few months to this morning. I shouldn't give anyone the benefit of the doubt in this situation.

Looks like I'm going to go buy insulin ice tomorrow.
