Pet food labels should be similar to the labels that are on food for human consumption. They should contain the number of servings per container with the nutritional percentages per serving. Because of the number of pets that have health issues the following items should be included on all labels. Also labels & feeding info needs to be large enough for people to read without having to resort to finding a magnifying glass. Also, the country where the product was manufactured needs to be clearly written on the label. In addition all of this information also needs to be on the company's website. Values on the labels need to be per serving and NOT minimum/maximum values. The following items need to be included:
Ingredients; percentages of protein, carbohydrates, fat per serving; grams of fiber and phosphorus; number of servings per container and size of each serving.

Hopefully if enough people will respond, they may make these changes.
 
I totally agree Lisa! With all the talk on the message board about wanting nutritional info on pet foods, I hope everyone takes a couple of minutes to say something while it MIGHT do some good!!

Yes, country of origin labels is an absolute necessity in my book. Not just where it is manufactured but where the ingredients are sourced. It can be made in the USA, but with ingredients from overseas and they don't have to disclose that. My Mom lost a kitty to the big pet food recall in 2007 and I haven't trusted commercial pet food since.
 
1 - The label is already required to state " They should contain the number of servings per container "
Feeding Directions:

All pet foods labeled as complete and balanced for any or all life stages must include feeding directions that, at a minimum, state "Feed (amount of product) per (weight) of dog/cat". Feeding frequency must also be stated. Feeding directions are optional for treats, as long as they are not complete and balanced and labeled as snacks or treats.

Giving serving per container is not right when this is the only food they will eat. For human food the serving per container/serving size is rather worthless. I fI recal they say the serving size of potato chips is like 6 or 10 chips, totally arbitrarily.
2 - While "Also labels & feeding info needs to be large enough for people to read without having to resort to finding a magnifying glass" is possible on some packages/containers it is impossible for small containers like FF canned food.
