Okay so I was a bad momma and while I didn't forget his anniversary I just forgot to have daddy help me get his anniversary picture until last night. Sorry buddy, Mom's making up for it now.

Most of you have heard me speak of my first OTJ boy, but seldom do I say a lot about him and probably only a few have seen his handsome face or know his back story.

I had just lost my first sugarcat Muse on May 31st, I had only recently found the board and was working on getting a meter and getting the vet to change her insulin. She was started on N. And even with me lowering her dose to 1u instead of the 3 that the vet wanted her on, she went into hypo and earned her wings overnight. For months I kicked myself for killing her. Then I decided that I was going to dive head first into Feline Diabetes and learn every single solitary thing I could about this disease, so that none of my cats would ever be taken from me again by at least this problem. I stayed on the board and I read, and I read some more, and I researched, and I probably drove my mother crazy with the ten thousand questions I asked her, and even tagged along when she went to her diabetic coach and drove the coach crazy with questions.

Then one morning on October 8, 2010 I log in and see I have a PM with a 911 icon on it. WTH? It was from Venita with DCIN...You see Muse had been a Katrina cat. And well DCIN had another Katrina cat that was within 24 hours of being euthanized if someone didn't step up to save him. They had someone that could pull him and foster for a short time while transport was arranged but in order to pull him they had to have someone that would commit to him long term. Could I and would I be that person. Well I was ready I thought to take another stab at dancing with a sugarcat, but we at that point already had 9 cats, two of which were mere kittens (Myrrdin and Duvessa) so let me ask Jon at least I'm thinking we could commit to a long term foster until a perfect home could be found.

So emails and phone calls flew between Jon and I, between Venita and I, and cjleo and Venita and I, in about 20 minutes it was decided, CJ would pull and foster until transport, Venita would start organizing the transport and with winter just around the corner he would be flown instead of ground transported and Jon and I would in two weeks give or take pick up our bouncing new baby boy, two hours away at the closest airport we could get him into. Then I saw my first picture of my new hairy son. My jaw dropped.
I knew that face, I had seen that face for 19 years, and missed it dearly. This new guy looked EXACTLY like my very first cat that I got when I moved out on my own at 18. And ironically he was also named MAX. Now Max the First was a Turkish Van, so once Maxwell arrived the similarities stopped at the face. But oh how they looked a like in the face.

Maxwell lasted as a foster about 20 minutes, just long enough for us to pick him up at the airport, wind our way out of Lincoln traffic and stop for a bite to eat at Burger King, and for me to get his carrier unstrapped and the door open so I could clean it up and clean him up. First thing he does is come out of the carrier, reach up but both paws around my neck and hug. Then walks over to Jon and does the same thing. Stretch, paws around the neck and hug. We melted like the snow that was now falling, he was ours and we his, no two ways around it. Max was now Lord Maxwell and he wasn't going anywhere but home with us. Venita called to make sure we had gotten him alright and we told her, just take him off the rehoming list, he'll be home in about 2 hours. He's ours and we are the best kind of failure...A foster failure.

I don't update it anymore but for those that want to see his journey to where we are today, and why I sometimes yell at you all for shooting slightly out of range numbers on an OTJ trial here is the link to Maxwell's spreadsheet from our very short dance Maxwell's SS As you can see I gave him a total of 2 shots, that's it folks TWO! And that is why you will hear me joke that his foster mom didn't pack him well enough because he broke in shipping

And as of last night here is the Cat, The Myth and The Legend posing with his meter!

Love you big guy, but boy did you spoil mom rotten and now I'm spoiling you rotten.

Awwh..thanks so much for sharing the story of Lord Maxwell.I really enjoyed it and found it to be so inspiring. It had to have been fate for you and him.( I always feel that God orchestrates these things ) and I am so glad that you stuck with this whole diabetes thing so you are now here to help others.! Thanks for all your input.

What a great story! You done good!
I don't think I ever knew that Muse was fd, I always thought Maxwell was your first.

Happy Anniversary, Lord Maxwell!

:RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Thank you for telling us his story, Mel. You're my favourite seanchaí.

Nope Jesse Maxwell was sugarcat number 2

Muse didn't live very long after she was dxed only a few days, I had only just found this board while she was hospitalized, and because of Memorial day weekend I couldn't get a meter and strips, so had to just follow my gut. She came home from the vet's on Friday and was gone by Monday morning. But she is the reason I'm so hardcore about testing.

I say I have 4 sugarcats that represent the seasons.

Muse is winter, her death lead me to this board and made me stay to learn about this disease.
Maxwell is Spring, he was my new beginnings an gave me back my confidence
Musette was Summer, fiery and unpredictable and gone all too quickly but boy did she teach me to dance, she follow no rules on being a good sugarcat
Autumn is just as her name says she is Autumn, sometimes warm and easy going and other times a storm brewing. For the most part dancing with her has been a nice lazy waltz but every now and then she likes to keep me on my toes.

Now there is Cassanova, and he doesn't really fit any season but all of them at once. Winter because as grossly overdosed as he was he should have never lived to see my home, Spring because he was a completely new challenge, how to take weight off and drop a dose safely. Summer because he is young and vibrant only 8 years old, and fall because he was just such and easy dance off the juice. So I guess maybe he is the wheel which all combines all the seasons to make a complete cycle.

What a handsome boy he is. He is one lucky boy coming to you. Two doses must be a record :-D

It is so sad that you had to to learn about diabetes in the hardest way possible but losing Muse in that way has lead to the help of hundreds of others. You are so good at posting lovely messages and also sad messages. How wonderful that you have the insight to describe your cats as the four seasons.

Well I gave him 2 he did get several more than that at his foster momma's house as you can see by his spreadsheet. He's my love at least until daddy gets home. Then it's mom who? ohmygod_smile Unless of course if I'm cooking chicken then the ALL know my name.

Way to go Maxwell. You went OTJ just a few months before Prop did, and while she did 3 1/2 year otj, you are still going. Well done to you and you Momma :)
