I just wanted to take a moment and say thank you to every single person on FDMB who has helped make the transition for Skooter and I....

Even though he was just recently diagnosed, I went from saying I would never give insulin...swore up and down I would never EVER test him at home...like Taylor Swift never ever......

But the support of everyone here has really made a huge difference. I really appreciate you all taking time out of your lives to help me and all the new diabetic cat parents cope and adapt.......

I am looking forward to a time when I will be able to help out a newbie myself :) (which is a long way off, I know, but still nice to think about)

There's always more to learn!

And there is a fair bit of crossover from human health to feline health. The Merck Manuals are a good place to pick up more tid bits - both the professional versions and the lay versions.

Whenever you don't know something and can't find it on the board, it can help to look it up in the Mercks and also try a Google search.

Thanks so much! I will definitely check that out.

I am also excited/nervous/anxious/excited that I have decided to TRY and change Skooter over from his dry food to a raw food diet.....

So I am warning everyone I am guessing I am going to have TONS more questions during the transition.....I might have to do it slower than I would like due to my work schedule. I start training a new person in a few weeks, which will limit being able to come home during lunch to test him.....

Not sure if this is possible, but thinking if I do the changing of the portions beginning Friday night, then have the whole weekend to test him, I can figure out what best to do during the week, then the following Friday, take out more dry and put more wet, test all weekend and so on until I can get him moved over. I know this will not be ideal, but at least it gets us moving in the right direction.

You're never too new here to share encouragement with other people and cheer them on or relate how something you did for Skooter might help with their cat too. It's not all about the Feline Diabetes knowledge, although that is helpful, but it's also about sharing your fears and worries with others and how you overcame them. Just being a shoulder to cry on or listening to someone vent about their frustrations can be helpful too.
