Good morning, Lantus Land!!! :D :coffee:

It's been over a week now since Blackie's :otj: Trial ended, and she's doing well. :D I honestly didn't think she'd get there, but she did. I still find it very surreal, to be honest, because this was something that I've been wishing for her for a very, very long time. I'm not sure when, or how often I was to test her, but I gave her a quick poke last Tuesday at noon, and she gave me an 86 in response. I'm guessing that I'm to test her weekly for about a month, and then once a month from that point on...?

She loves lap sits, and will pretty much fall asleep in my lap wherever I sit. Until I have to move, which I hate doing, but things have to get done, unfortunately. She loves her brushing, and she's much better at getting her nails clipped since we've purchased the scissor-style clippers. She's still iffy about her back nails, though, but then what cat isn't? LOL Cats don't like having their paws touched very much as it is, especially the rears.

I want to thank you all very, very much, for helping me with her over the past 5 years, and for putting up with my stubbornness. I'm sure a few of us have butted heads on occasion, and sometimes we all know what's best for our own kitties, and don't see the other side at that time and moment. We're all humans. It happens. LOL When I fed her at 4:00 (can't remember if it was a.m. or p.m. at the time) that day, and her # responded, I decided to continue doing that for her to see where it went. Thankfully, it went in a very positive direction. In the beginning, I think there was one particular person, Sienne, that suggested feeding mini meals throughout the day, and then a few others suggested that very same thing later on. Yep, my stubborn streak came out, like usual, and I thought feeding her at the schedule that I had her on at the time was working, and eventually things were going to change, but didn't know when. Lo and behold... I was wrong (not something we humans like to admit at times, but I admit that I was wrong LOL). It was like that Golden Corral commercial where the frying pan (big iron skillet type, I might add) hit me in the head, and the saying was, "When will it hit you?". LOL (For those that don't know about, or have never seen a Golden Corral, it's a buffet-style restaurant.) From that point on, her feeding schedule was changed, and I'm pretty much keeping her on it even to this day. I still get up at or before 4:00 a.m. each and every morning, and I'm fine with that. The daytime meal times vary, though, depending upon what's going on that day. I can't put food down as the others will gobble it up, especially her son, Groucho. So, I spoon feed her like you've seen in the video. And yes, I do wipe her tiny face, too, with a warm cloth. :)

All in all, things here are as normal as they can be. I hope that things with you all are getting better. I wish that everyone can get their kitties to the OTJ Trial, and then beyond like I did with Blackie.

Sending tons of healing vines, positive thoughts, and prayers to whoever needs them.

MY WISH: For God to help heal the broken hearts of those who lost a beloved pet and/or human... For God to help those ailing make a full and speedy recovery... For everyone, including Blackie, to have great #s... For everyone, including Blackie to be permanently OTJ.

So happy to hear that Blackie is doing so well OTJ! I have to agree about the mini meals, they totally turned Sammy around, and we are hoping to get back to the FALLS soon.. Just out of curiosity what is Blackie's feeding schedule and the amounts?

Blackie's feeding schedule is as such: AMBG, +1.5 (give or take), +3 (give or take), +4.5 to +5 (give or take), +6 or +6.5 (give or take), +10-ish, PMBG, +1.5-ish, +3-ish, +10-ish.

Her amounts are 22g per feeding except for the +10 meals, which are 18g. I also include 1.5 tsps. of water for the AMBG, PMBG, +1.5, +4.5, +6 meals, 1.25 tsps. of water for the +3 meals, and about 1/2 tsp. of water for the +10 meals to ensure that she's getting water as she doesn't drink out of the water bowl anymore.

With Sammy, you'll need to experiment to see what works for him. Blackie's feeding schedule, and food amounts, may or may not work for Sammy as ECID. You can try it, and if it doesn't work, try something else. I have Blackie on a regimen as that's what works for her. I also weigh her food so that I know how much she's getting. Before this schedule, I was feeding her only 4x/day, which I thought was working, but it wasn't actually. Everything you do, and experiment with, is trial and error. Sooner or later you'll find something that'll work for Sammy. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't work right away, or if his #s turn out to be a bit wonky. Sometimes he'll need time to adjust to what you're doing for him, and he'll either respond negatively, or positively (hopefully the latter, of course!) :D

Morning Angela :coffee::coffee::coffee:

Normalcy in BlackieLand! Her whole journey is awesome. It is great to read that she continues to do well. You've done great with her. Enjoy this OTJ. If it were me I'd continue to test, at least once a week, just to keep a handle on things. People approach that issue differently. I know one bean who continues to test daily even after a couple of years in remission. She just wants to be sure. others test once a month. Maybe just do whatever you are comfortable with.

have a great day today!

I'm thinking that testing once a week is sufficient at least for the time being. I'm not so sure about testing once a month, though. Like you said, do whatever I'm comfortable with. Thankfully, she doesn't mind the pokes since we've been doing it for so long. LOL :D

Thanks Angela, I have been doing some experimenting, I started with hourly feeding through +6 and then a snack at +9, but felt like he was still getting too much food. So I backed off to AMPS, +2, +4 and +9. I might try going back to the hourly and just give less food. I just started weighing the food in the last day or so, and I am finding it is a bit more accurate that way.

When you say "Give or Take" do you mean that you sometimes give this meal and sometimes not, or that the meal is around +1.5, +3, +4, +5, +6?

Based on your PM I am assuming that you are giving Blackie approximately 3 oz of food 84 g in 12 hours. That is about what I am trying to do for Sammy as well. Sammy weighs about 14 pounds, so I figure 6 oz of food a day should be a good amount, but maybe it isn't quite enough? What is Blackie's weight? And could you confirm how many grams of food you are giving in the morning?

Thanks again.

What a great update on Blackie. I think testing once a week is a good idea. I know some people will go to once a month after a couple of months. Also keep in mind, if anything seems off with her, you may want to get a test.

I tested Maui weekly, for the first month, then monthly for a couple months, then whenever the mood hit or something was unusual - like her drinking from the water dish - which she completely stopped doing once she was on the wet food diet and getting plenty of water in her food.

OMG Angela... I have not been on the board lately and just read that Blackie ifs OTJ! I am super happy for the both if you :bighug::bighug::bighug: I am going now to find Bkackie's OTJ video. CONGRATS !!!
