I just wanted to say thank you to all the people that were so supportive when my cat was first diagnosed, March 2012. Yesterday he had full senior blood work done, and not only is he no longer showing as diabetic, all other functions/tests came back as normal. After months of trying different foods and meal times, losing a couple pounds, poking his ear (and sometimes my finger too) and lots of me stressing out, he's officially better!
We never ended up doing insulin or pills. After doing lots of research I chose to monitor his blood sugar at home and slowly adjust his diet. I was lucky it has worked out so well and he's doing great.
Food was especially difficult for us since he is allergic to poultry. He was also addicted to dry food, so it took a good 6 months before he adjusted to wet food and set meal times. Now he's down from 15.5lb to 12.0lb, which is perfect for his frame. He eats 1/2 can Weruva Mack and Jack with 1/2 can Weruva Mideast Feast, every 12 hours (no treats or any other food). To ensure he gets proper meal times if I get stuck working late, I bought the two serving timed feeder with ice pack by Cat Mate.
Everyone's experience is different, just find what works for you and your cat so you can have many more years together.
