hi all,
I now realize that i posted in the wrong place. sorry. i am so overwhelmed by my baby being diagnosed. Pimiento has not been acting himself back in September. I chalked it up to the kids overwhelming him. so after taking him to the vet, the 2nd week of October we realize not only is he diabetic like 400 diabetic, he tested at 500! then the following week. 700. after putting him on Lantus 2 times a day at .3 he goes for another test tomorrow. i stay up every night with him thinking this is his last. these are really high numbers. i think that the rides to the vet is making this worse. i finally bought a glucose monitor this afternoon thanks to so many of you!
i hope i can get his numbers down im so worried. he is already 10 yeard old.
i just wanted to thank so many of you for your encouragment, kind words and resourceness. i really appreaciate it!!

Sending prayers for you and Pimento. I hope he is feeling better real soon. This is a great place for you to ask questions about your sugar kitty.

You're so welcome we all wish you the best, many of us have been where you are now. High numbers are very scary (as is a very dopey cat!) but not quite as dangerous as very low BG so you DO have some breathing room. DO get those Ketone strips though, as that is a real risk along with high BG numbers...

Once you get started with regular BG checks, you will have a much better idea of what is needed. People have described giving insulin without Home testing as being like driving a car on the freeway with a paper bag over your head...! Try and get the Google Docs Spreadsheet started as this will help the advisors here to understand how Pimiento is responding to the Lantus.

Bear in mind that switching to LC wet (canned) food just by itself, will bring the BG down -- how much, depends on the cat ("ECID" - Every Cat Is Different!). So home testing is your BEST friend!!! If you should see very low numbers below 100, the Sticky posts can help - or jump on here and ask questions in the Lantus Forum (add the '?' icon to your post!)

Please anyhow, would you please put up a NewTopic in the Lantus Forum and let the folks there know how you are doing? And don't be afraid to ask Questions!!!

Hang in there..!

Please contact us in Lantus Land!! There are many who can help and who can answer your questions!! And definitely get the newbie kit...well worth it even if you bought a meter.
