I couldn't test Oreo this morning. I poked him about 30 times and couldn't get blood. And he was getting mad. And I had to get to school. So I skipped his shot and just fed him. IN cases like this should I just give him a .5 unit? I am going to make sure I test him when I get home from school. Just would like to know how to handle this in the future.

Thanks-
Niki and Oreo/Pudders

I'm not a dosing expert, but I think you did absolutely the right thing this morning by skipping. The recent switch to canned food has made a huge difference in Pudder's numbers, and you don't have much data yet on the new diet. I will leave it to others to help you decide what to do in the future, but I think for this instance, you did the right thing.

I agree with Anne. You did the right thing. The change to wet food is having a good and big effect on his BG. Can you update the subject line of your first post to
2/25 Pudders AM no test

Then it clear on the date and kitty. Thanks!

Hi Nikki. Sorry that you couldn't get any blood for testing this morning. When we first started to home test we had some problems also. Fortunately we received some excellent guidance here. The ear has to be warm, especially when just starting. We used a homemade sock with rice in it. We cut the toe from an athletic sock and made a testing sock that fit his ear nicely then filled it with rice and stitched it shut. Put it in the microwave to get it warm. Also do the poke close to the end of the ear. I was holding the lancet in my hand to do the poke but PurrFace didn't like that so we use the lancet device now. We use a 31 gauge (or a 30 gauge if 31 gauge isn't available).

Here is post from one of the star stickys on the front page that might help.
Top Ear Testing Tips

Have a great day and good luck with the home testing. You'll become a pro in no time. Hang in there.

I am at school. And have a busy afternoon. I will update it when I get a chance. I am so sorry.

Thanks-
Niki and Oreo/Pudders

Niki,
No need to be sorry! Because of the sheer number of daily threads (they call them "condos" on this forum) that are created here every day, there are certain "conventions" that are encouraged when you post on the Tight Regulation forum.

Like "one condo per cat, per day", for instance. It just helps because it keeps all your "stuff" and all your questions, in one place. It makes it easier for anyone just "meeting you" to see everything at once. It also makes it easier for you down the road, because you can go back to the earlier days' condos and find what you are looking for more simply.

And like "updating the subject line". That helps by putting the most recent information on the index page so that if you have a new question, or you just saw a strange high or low number from a test, then you can update the subject so that everyone sees that you need help or advice "now".

But you're the "new kid on the block" this week. You aren't expected to know everything about the forum specific guidelines when you first start posting here. In a short time, you'll get the hang of things, so don't worry too much about it!

If you have any questions about "how do I update the subject", or anything about "how-to post", just ask away and we'll try to help you understand. But you don't get "demerits" if you don't quite get things right. ;-)

Carl
