Have you thought about using a Human meter? I've been using a Relion Prime meter from Walmart for 18 months & haven't had any problems with it. The meter costs $9 & the strips are $18 for 100!
The vets always tell you to use the alphatrak (I think they must get money from selling them) My Kitty is 17 yrs old & doing good. Only needs half of a unit of insulin now.
If you come on the Lantus Forum there are a lot of people there with experience in dosing insulin. Someone will help you set up a spreadsheet so you can see how your cat is reacting to the insulin.
I've seen kitties go into remission just by stopping all dry food. Some vets have said dry food is the worst thing you can feed. They even think it can cause Diabetes in some cats.
Good luck with Zoe. I hope to see you on the Lantus forum!
