Hi! I have had some success in testing Casey. Her one ear I wasn't able to get blood from but the other ear I have been able to get a decent amount. However, she now has a bruise on her ear. I do put Neosporin with pain relief on after. I tried using the other ear this morning and after several attempts could not get any blood. I don't want to hurt her and use the bruised ear. Should I be testing on an ear that is bruised??

Right after reading the meter are you holding the pierced area fo the ear between your finger/thumb for 30 seconds or so. I use a cotton cosmetic pad in between ear and thumb/fingers. That helps prevent bruising. So use Neosporin or similar but I do not.

I use Neosporin with pain relief and I put it on the ear before I prick him, that way the blood will bead up better instead of spreading into his fur. Also, I use a piece of tissue behind the ear #1 so I don't prick myself in the process and #2 it doesn't bruise as badly. You might try rubbing that other ear for a few minutes before you try to prick - that might help get blood flowing in that ear. But if you have to, you can test the bruised ear - it's more important to know what's going on with kitty's BG numbers. She'll forgive you, I promise! And don't forget to bribe with treats! lol :cat:

Yes, Larry I do put pressure on the ear afterwards. She is a beige colored cat, so I see it easily...the bruising. I have tried rubbing the ear to get the blood flowing but the one ear is just being difficult.
