Testing paw pad vs ear?

Just getting started with testing. Trixie does NOT like her ears messed with (plus she is a long haired cat), but doesn't seem to mind the paws. I see that pad testing is one way to go, and yet every one talks about ears. Is there a reason I should be attempting the ear when the paw is so much easier?

I myself would like to know how is done and yes I've always heard, the ear, my poor Corky's ears are so sore I can tell and he really has 1 ear that I can test easier the right ear does not draw enough blood most of time,

Thanks - actually at this time, I haven't been successful with either paw or ear... still trying to get ANY amount of blood! But I'll keep at it and am trying the various tricks suggested.

yeah after failing for a week or two with the ear poke, we tried a paw pad but with my boy Hendrick that was 1000% something he was not going to tolerate. Some cats, however, are more willing to allow a paw pad prick vs an ear prick
