Testing numbers jumped

I tested my sugarcat last night and got a bg of 274 but then this morning it jumped to 429. He is on a low carb, canned food diet. He gets a large plate of raw food every night and never any dry food. I can't figure out if this jump is because the test was taken early (within the 12 hours from last shoot) or some other reason. I know I got two good shoots yesterday so this jump scares me. For security reasons, I am unable to fill out a google chart for his numbers. Any thoughts? :?: :?: :?:

It could be a bounce, or it could be nothing at all.
Sometimes, when a cat's BG drops lower than usual or faster than usual, the body will produce glucose to make up for the perceived deficit. Never mind that the "low" number may have been completely healthy - the body thinks that glucose is running low so it makes some. This can send BG numbers higher than usual for a cycle or two until it all clears. This is called a bounce.
My Chester is a bouncy boy.

And then I think that sometimes they just have wonky days. I don't worry about one odd, high reading. Maybe I should, but I don't.

Thanks. That is helpful to know. I am getting a ReliOn Confirm meter tonight so I hope my testing can be more consistent instead of getting errors. I must say though that last night my boyfriend held him in his lap and comforted him while I tested and shot - which was really nice. I will have to convince him to stop by more often.

Not sure what your security reasons are. Work related is a guess.

So here is a way you can use for now. You could put your number in the post like this, replacing the xxx with your actual numbers and the 1U with your actual dose of insulin given.

5/8/13 AMPS xxx 1U +2 xxx +3 xxx +6 xxx PMPS xxx 1U +6 xxx
5/9/13 AMPS xxx 1U +6 xxx PMPS xxx 1U +2 xxx

Keep adding numbers to the post as you get them. Keep copying and pasting the numbers into any new posts you do so we can see the history. Yes it has it's limitations but it will help for now.

Yes, my work does not allow anything related to Google to flow through its circuits because of Google's data-mining. I certainly can present numbers the way you suggest except I only do two tests (AMPS and PMPS) per day and the first couple of days I failed in Testing 101. I will provide these to you tonight or tomorrow. Thanks.

Tonight or tomorrow is fine.

Provide whatever numbers you have. I provided the examples with the +hours so when you do get some more tests besides the AMPS and the PMPS test numbers, you know how to enter them in your post. ;-)

Yes, it takes time to get used to home testing. Not being successful at getting any tests the first few days is normal.

ETA: Since you can not ever provide a spreadsheet in our standard preferred format, if you put a note to that effect in your signature, people will see that and stop asking why is there no spreadsheet. Or hopefully they will.

To do this, in the upper left of the screen are the words User control panel, click on that. Then click on the profile tab. Next click on edit signature over on the left side of the screen. A free form text box will appear. This is where that comment can go. Something along the lines of "Work security prevents all google access so no SS available. See posts for BG #'s"

This free form text box is also where we have members enter some data about them and their cat. Which you already did.

Having this information gives us a quick snapshot of your cats situation and allows us to help you help your cat better.

What you might also do is when you're at home, you can download the Google Spreadsheet we use and import it into Excel (or you can even create your own spreadsheet in Excel if you prefer). Then, you could use that Excel file to track his numbers and even upload it here, if need be (i.e. if we're needing to see more numbers that go further back).

Now that I see Snoball's numbers, they don't seem to be swinging as widely as I thought. I think the 429 was due to a couple of furr shots. I have gotten better at shooting. But since I promised...

5/5/13
AMPS: 368
PMPS:

5/6/13
AMPS: :YMSIGH:
PMPS: 274

5/7/13
AMPS: 349
PMPS: 387

5/8/13
AMPS: ohmygod_smile
PMPS: 281

5/9/13
AMPS: 429
PMPS: 350

5/10/13
AMPS: 369

He is on 1u BID.

It has been a stressful first week just getting used to a new schedule and learning how to do all this properly. Thanks again for all of your support and assistance. I am more at ease already.

Good job on getting the tests in! :thumbup With Lantus, the nadir (lowest point) really helps us see how he's doing. It's not always easy getting those numbers, especially if you work during the day, but try to add on a "Before Bed" test each night if you can. This will give us a better idea on how far he's falling throughout a cycle.

Not bad numbers but the key thing is how low is he going during the cycle? Not low enough? too low? Can you get some tests in during the day or maybe before bed?

Do you have another computer or device we can set up a SS on - like using google drive?

You've been doing a fantastic job so far! Yes, there is so much to learn in this new 'sugardance' and the steps keep changing.

Remember to take some time for yourself to relax and recharge. You need to stay healthy to help Snoball stay well.

This is an emotionally, physically, and mentally exhausting process, taking care of a diabetic cat. The first few weeks are the hardest. You have already accomplished so much in only 1 week. Think back on what you have done. Learned to test, learned a whole new vocabulary, learned to inject insulin, accepted a new cat into your household, and so many other things.

Good job! Keep it up and you will feel like an old hand in no time. ;-)

I am at home and trying to find the spreadsheet template but time has run out. I must run out and won't have time to get back to home computer for a while. I would like to at least try to start it at home. Could someone send me a link. I remember seeing it posted somewhere but now that I want it and am in a hurry - I can't find it. Thanks.
