Testing causing bruising

Shanti is patient when I test but he has been getting bruises on his ears. I usually get just a small drop of blood so I know I am not getting the vein, I also hold the spot for a short time with a tissue to help avoid bruising but he is getting them anyway. I use a relion micro and the pen that comes with it. The lancets are labeled micro-thin and I end up setting the pen on the highest mark because I wasn't getting a big enough drop with the lower setting. He really doesn't seem to care but I feel sorry for him when I see his little ears with several bruises on them.
Has anyone ever used a piller to give pills? I have given Shanti pills for years and have no problem but I am going away for a couple days and so far my husband has not been able to get Shanti to take the pill. I end up doing it. We have about 11 days before I go, Shanti gets a pill twice a day. My husband has not problems with the insulin shot. He hasn't tired a glucose test, that it next.

Keep varying the spots so you aren't poking always the same area. My Tiggy bruises too and has small bumps. Bailey doesn't. No idea why since I use the same technique. Doesn't seem to bother him though.

Pill pockets always work well for me. Or pieces of cooked chicken with the pill hidden inside.

Depending on the pill, it can be dissolved in some water in an oral syringe and given that way. Add a small amount of soft food to help mask the taste.
