I have two cats of my twelve who have oral cancer. One has Squamous cell carcinoma. The other was diagnosed with a tumor on her gum that is very bloody. The latter cat is a controlled diabetic and the first normal.

They all graze dry and twice a day get high quality low carb canned. The dry is EVO, but they have had others like EP 90 and Young Again in the past albeit briefly. I have always fed the best pet food available.

I wonder if all those sharp pieces of bone in canned can cause it.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to know for sure. Other things to consider are whether they were ever exposed to second-hand smoke, and there's also the possibility of a viral cause (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24456796), although these exposures might be more relevant in humans. Anyway, I know that oral SCC is a relatively common cancer type in cats.

I'm so very sorry you and your kitties are dealing with this. I know the Winn Feline Foundation is doing some studies on therapies, and hopefully they will find something effective asap.
