Libby - I definitely don't think I should skip the shot. I was wondering if I should go to 1 U. I have 200+ strips and a case of HC.

If he were "normal" Tarragon I would shoot his regular dose. However, he is still not anxious to eat much.

Paws crossed on the dose answer....I have no idea and I think one of our really experienced ones should weigh in. HOpefully Libby/Sienne/Jill will be around soon.

I was going to ask how he was eating. That does throw a wrench into things.

Usually with a recent DKA, the goal is to give them as much insulin as we reasonably can, even if that means feeding higher carb food. Do you think he'll eat HC food? I'm not suggesting to shoot 50s under the circumstances, I think you'll have to stall. I'm just thinking about when you do shoot. It's hard to find the balance between the amount of insulin that will keep the ketones from coming back and the amount of insulin that will be too much.

He ate a whole can of HC when he got home. Right now he just wants to sleep. Probably from being exhausted and not getting rest at the vet. Tuna seems to be the only thing that has peaked his interest. That isn't much help for his BG though.

Will Tarragon eat baby food and do you have any? It's easy on the digestive system and it may be a bit higher carb (at least Gerbers' is). You may need to feed in smaller amounts than usual and more frequently until he's back on track.

a whole can is pretty good. I'm sure he is tired. I remember Jojo saying that cats don't really sleep when they are in the hospital, they just sit and stare.

He is pretty skittish and I know he didn't get any sleep. Our house is very quiet so it was a major shock. I think his BG was inflated there because of it. He can go up by 100 for a vet visit.

how do you feel about stalling? I feel like I would rather see him at least over 100, if not higher. It has been a while since you have shot low and this is probably not the best time to try it.

I can stall. The thing that concerns me is we have to shoot 6am/6pm during the week. They threw that off by shooting at 7:30 this morning so I was hoping to catch up by Tuesday. I can make it work though.

Life has had me off the boards the past few days, but I beelined for your condo tonight and am soooo happy to hear the news!!! have you considered trying a raw diet for Mr. T? I'd be happy to provide any info once you get past tonight's dosing dilemmas!!

Very very tired. He went to bed. I guess he thinks we are done. :lol: He was at 141 at +2 so I will probably set my alarm for +4 and give him some peace and quiet. I think he didn't get much rest at the hospital. Imagine! Nobody ever does.

sorry I disappeared on you, I fell asleep. :oops: Nice shooting. Hopefully he'll just keep surfing in his sleep. I would definitely test once or twice just to be sure. I hope everybody feels better tomorrow.

Hope all is well this morning after the crazy evening you guys had. I'm sure he has to work through some things from that ordeal to get back to normal. Tigger hates 5 minutes at the Vet let alone days!
