Hello, I was wondering if there was such a thing that indicates a cat has diabetes I can put on Tips collar for in case she gets out? I think it'd definitely give me some peace of mind knowing that should someone find her, not only does she have a tag indicating where to go, but also that she's diabetic. Not sure what good it'd do to have it on there, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks!

Haivng a medical ID tag on your cat's collar is important, IMO  I bought one for my diabetic from here: http://www.gotags.com/medical.php I got the mini dog tag style one in easy to see red (other colors available but red is most commonly associated with medical stuff).

For the info on the tag, I put "DIABETIC NEEDS INSULIN DAILY IF FOUND CALL VET" and then it has the number of the regular vet and the number of the vet ER. It's 5 lines of text, which is the max you can put on the mini tag.

The DCIN kitty I adopted, Mooch, had a cute tag with his name and "Diabetic" on it. Some pet stores make tags while you wait. I think it's a good idea for cats who might get out. If you will ever have anyone taking care of your pets, it's a good idea because things happen and they can get outside in a flash.

I was just going to suggest the same thing. I go the tag for Mooch at PetSmart and they have one of those automatic tag machines that you can engrave both sides of the tag. I got a larger dog sized one and put Mooch (Diabetic) on one side and my and my vets phone numbers on the other side.

You can see a picture of it at the start of his OTJ video

I'll look in to all these options. Thanks so much. :) Yeah, crap happens, and she's especially likely to when it comes time to eat, because she's almost followed me right out the door when I've gone to get a new can(due to lack of space in the house, I store unopened cans in the garage)! That's why I got tags for both the indoor cats, but at the time, Tip wasn't diabetic. My outdoor Frankie had one long before then because, well, he's always outside and I don't want him doubled up on his shots. And that's a cute tag, Lisa. :)

I bought a regular nylon collar in a light color, and wrote on it with a black sharpie. Also, if you cat is chipped, you should make sure to add the information about being diabetic to their profile.

That might work too, since it seems like they need new collars, how often should they be replaced, it's been slightly under a year. No, she is not chipped. I wanted the cats to be chipped, but my brother is against it. So I'm respecting his wishes.

Collars should be replaced when they start to become frayed and worn out.

What is it about microchips that your brother is against? The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and a vet inserts it by injection just under the skin. The microchip won't travel or "get lost" in a cat's body.

Alright, Frankie definitely needs a new one then, as does Tip. For some reason, Christmas has taken good care of hers, despite being indoor-only, just like Tip. Understand Frankie's since he's purely outdoors.

If I remember correctly when it was being discussed, that he didn't want then to be chipped as it'd be like chipping a child, and that's considered wrong, I guess. I also believe concern at the time was that it might travel, as this was a while ago and it just never came back up in conversation. I assume his thoughts on it are still the same.
