Well he had a good day yesterday, but last night and this morning he's back to high peshots. confused_cat confused_cat How long should I wait until changing dose? He's been on this dose for 6 days and the bounce doesn't seem to be clearing at all. I wonder if he needs an adjustment, either up or down. Will wait til at least this weekend cause I want to do a full curve on this dose before changing.

He's back at the vet this morning for more enemas. He just won't poop on his own. Argh.

AMPS 474
+5 133 - after I picked him up at the vet. Pretty good!

Have a good day, everyone.

Re: Tableau amps 474 - at vet for more enemas - DOSING ADVIC

Hi Emily! I'm sure someone more experienced will be around soon, but here's my comments--

It can take up to 72 hours for a bounce to clear, and it looks like Tableau is still bouncing. Every time he hits a lower number, that's a new bounce, and the count starts over again. He hit a 103 yesterday, so this bounce really started less than 24 hours ago.

It takes a lot of patience this stage in the game. A lot of people call it "Liver training school". Tableau's body needs to adjust to those normal numbers so that his liver will stop panicking and dumping glucose into his blood.

Hi Emily, Julie is right, your 72 hour countdown restarted w/ that 103. The good thing is that shows you the insulin is working. Hang in there. :YMHUG:

I don't think I've stopped in before so I don't know what other advice has been given on the constipation. Any stress can elevate the BG numbers and T's hig BGs could be from the stress of being constipated. Once infections and other problems are cleared up, numbers can quickly drop down.

Has anyone mentioned giving Tableau Miralax? It is a very gentle human OTC drug for constipation. it acts by drawing water into the colon so the stools aren't so hard. 1/8 tsp once or twice a day mixed into the food.

Another thing is to add water to the canned food. Cats naturally get most of their water from their prey and adding extra water seems to really help.

Have you looked up felineconstipation.org It was amazing for Maverick. I can't remember if I told you about it already or not. The switch to wet food was the cause of Maverick's backing up. He needed a new fibre source. Cisapride, mirilax, pumpkin didn't help. I got instructions on enemas and was able to do them at home. Don't do this without knowledge on this though. You can only use specific ones for cats some are toxic. But the constipation site is great for knowledge. Some cats can get megacolon also.

Wow, Karrie that is a great site. I wish it had been around years ago when my CRF kitty had chronic constipation.

I agree with Julia -- Tableau sees blue and then bounces.

I wouldn't increase at this point. You just saw a 103. Once Tableau finds a toy other than a pogo stick, hopefully, this will all start to level out.

As usual, thanks everyone for your advice and the great info.

Thanks for the website...looks like a lot of good info which I will read over tonight.

He is currently on miralax, cisipride, and subq fluids. I will try some pumpkin too. Hadn't thought about that. Tableau's been on raw food for years, so there was no recent change in diet. I do add water to it, but I will add some more and see if that hel-ps..

He's had a lot of stress over the last few months (cancer, chronic nose problems, diabetes return), which has probably contributed to his overall decline in health.

Thank you all.

Re: Tableau amps 474 +5 133 (even after vet)

If you're going to try the pumpkin, make sure you get plain pumpkin puree. Do not get the pumpkin pie filling -- it contains sugar and spices.

Maybe he was feeling better after the vetty visit?

Wow...What a drop.... Tableau looks great in blue!! (That said, I hope he doesn't have too much of a bounce from it.)

Emily and Tableau, keep up the good work!!!
