Syringe

Hi everyone, I hope you and your kitties have been doing well. I’m still dealing with my dad in the hospital and I’ve been unable to post to the board. I haven’t been getting any mid cycle tests lately and I think Yoshi is bouncing. I have a bit of a breather and I’m back home so I can go back to setting alarms and seeing what’s going on. (I also have to update his spreadsheet tonight)

Anyway I just got a new syringes from my vet and they’re different than the previous ones she has given me. I had 50 unit syringes and now I have 30 unit syringes the dose 4u on the new 30 unit syringes looks bigger than that on the 50 unit. Can I use these?

I'll let one of the experts chime in about this, but I *think* they should be the same. The barrel looks ever so slightly wider on one that the other.

I will say, the syringes with the wider gaps between units (the 30 unit ones) are going to be much much easier for micro doses! So those are going to be the better ones to dose with!

I’m inclined to say yes.

If you’re really sceptical, you could fill a 30 syringe with another liquid, squirt it out on a small bowl, then draw it up again with the 50 syringe :woot: I don’t guarantee it is entirely accurate though.

Paws crossed for no drama tonight.

Have you shopped around at human pharmacies or online for syringes? Could be cheaper. There are a lot of 30 unit syringes with thinner 31 gauge needles, making the poking easier too.

I did go to Walmart and get the relion 30 with half unit markings, but I don’t like the shorter needle. I was using them both until I ran out. So I just went back to my vet and paid a lot. Do you need a prescription to get them online?

@Wendy&Neko do you think the 50u syringes have a smaller dose? It sure looks that way.

He was 400 at preshot so I don’t expect drama but he sure has surprised me sometimes

There are other brands of syringes besides ReliOn. ADW is a good source. The sticky note on syringes lists some available in the US. I am in Canada, so have only used the BD’s which have options for needle length.

A unit should be a unit. I used some 50 unit ones for giving Cartrophen (sort of like Adequan in the US).
