How do you dispose of your used syringes. do you mail them somewhere or drop off back at vet for medical waste disposal?

It all depends upon where you live. Go to your city's/locality's website and look under refuse collection. The instructions of what you do should be listed.
My county incinerates trash in a co-generation pland and I just have to place the "sharps" in a nonbreakable container like a plastic laundry soap container and after fill screw the cap on a seal with tape and label the outside and throw in trash.
You can ask your vet or pharmacy too.

That's exactly how I dispose of them, too. But as @Larry and Kitties suggested, it's a good idea to go to your county or locality's website and check out their recommendations. I think many vets will also accept used syringes... at least our vet does.

Walgreen's, where I buy the insulin, provides Sharps containers. When it's full I take it in and they give me an empty one.

Seconding what Chris says above (although I'm in the UK). If you can clip the needle bit off the syringe then the rest of the syringe barrel may often just be disposed of in normal trash (or recycling...). Where I am in the UK we can often arrange for someone to come and collect the 'needles' for disposal... We're very lucky.... :woot:
