ooooh, I can relate to the monster shed. It's both a blessing and a curse. I've never had to syringe gravy either and I can imagine that after all this time, if she suddenly didn't want gravy that would be concerning. I think the gravy lovers have about the same carb % as regular HC, but there is a lot more gravy so maybe somehow it's diluted? I don't know.
A little clarification from my earlier post. I don't think the IAA itself necessarily means that a cat needs more gravy. For acro cats, the pancreas is functioning so food can drive the numbers down, meaning that they might need a ton of gravy to bring their numbers up. IAA cats, the best I understand, are more like regular diabetic cats in that the pancreas is probably not working. Food/carbs should react the same way as other diabetic cats. The reason the gravy needs might be more is simply that there is more insulin to overcome. Sharyn knows her cat really well and did exactly the right thing. I know Sharyn can set me straight if I'm not understanding correctly. Sharyn is my IAA hero.
Re: dose, it might be that temporarily going UP in dose like you did might have put her on a dose reduction path. Maybe this dose wasn't enough before, but it looks like it's too much right this minute. You might want to give a skinny 20.25u a try. She might even be ok on 20u now, but you do have to consider that some of today's action might have been leftover shed action from the 20.5. Micro dosing a high dose cat, fun, huh?
