Peeper was diagnosed with diabetes about a year and a half ago. We did a few months of insulin and put him on an all wet food diet and his symptoms went away and his blood sugar was maintaining at around 100. So we weaned him off the insulin.
For a year he's been his old self. Lots of energy. Normal pee clumps in the litter box.
But a couple weeks ago that changed. He is very lethargic and the other day he was begging for water while I was at the sink. We stopped leaving a water dish out for him when we switched to wet food because he stopped drinking it. I assumed he got enough water from his food that he wasn't thirsty.
He drained that water dish when I put it out this time.
He's also peeing a lot more. The pee clumps aren't quite like the sticky, cement clumps when he was first diagnosed, but they are getting there.
So tonight I did a glucose test and it was 350.
I'll schedule a vet appointment tomorrow, but is there anything that might have caused him to come out of remission?
His food is mainly Fancy Feast Grilled Cheddar or Medleys. He can be a little picky, but the carb content is pretty comparable to his prescription food, only it's cheaper. And it's what I've fed him this whole time.
