Sylvan's Lower numbers

Hi All,

I haven't been here for awhile, but something's going on with Sylvan. Maybe he's handling the insulin different, or maybe, just maybe his pancreas is starting to help out. But this past week Sylvan has had some later nadirs and his preshot BG tests have been pretty consistently below 200 at shot time. We've been using the strategy of waiting a couple hours until he's above 200 to shoot. We've also lowered his dose, but I was curious what everyone thought. I'm not sure if we should be adjusting his dose to his BG numbers or keeping the dose consistent.

Thanks to this site, I am so glad we check his blood sugar or else we would have been shooting a pretty heavy dose for such low BG numbers.

It would be nice if you could get a dose that will work to keep him in good numbers am and pm, and stay consistent with it for a few cycles.

You mentioned some days when you can to wait until it was over 200 to shoot. Which days were those?

We want to go back to a dose where you got above 200 am and pm. When was that?

Sylvan's numbers have been tricky lately. All of a sudden his regular dose of 3 units put him at 193 at shot time. We've been shooting between 1 unit and 2.5 to see if we can find a good dose.

I guess we have to find that happy median where he gets a good number at nadir, but isn't too low at shot time. This morning he was 311 at shot time and we gave 2.5 units- now at +13 he is at 162. So I guess that was too much. The day before he was 202 at shot time and we gave him 1.25, but he never got below 200. It's so confusing.
 
You have a big space between 2.5 and 1.25 to play with. How about 1.75 to see what happens with am/pm numbers? What do you think? If you like 1.5 better, you can do that also.

No right or wrong here. You are gathering data to see what works.
 
That sounds good. Tonight, I'm going to wait until he's above 200 to give a shot (still a good idea, right?) and then follow my gut.
He may respond better to 1 unit when he's at 200. I'm wondering if when we gave him 1.25 unit at 200 yesterday, it was actually too much and therefore he had a flat day. Or maybe it was too little.

I'll continue tweaking the shot and see what happens. Thanks for your help.
