Switching to Levemir from Vetsulin, does this new dosage make sense?

Hi everyone, happy Friday!

This weekend (starting tomorrow morning) we will be making the switch from Vetsulin to Levemir! Hooray! I’m just a bit nervous...

Her current dosage is 1.5 units of Vetsulin, with the U-40 syringe. My vet suggested 1unit of Levemir with the U-100 syringe. Does this seem reasonable?

Also, do I roll the Levemir at all? I’ve heard no, but the vet said yes... thoughts??

(I should clarify, I trust and adore my vet, I just also like to gather an excessive amount of info before making decisions!)

Thanks for the input!

Hello and welcome. No, you don't roll the Levemir. Take a read through the yellow starred Sticky Notes on the top of this forum. There is one on insulin care and syringes that is really helpful.

Typically we suggest switching to similar doses, so that would be 1.5 units of Levemir. Some people will go down 0.25 units, so to 1.25 units, just in case. Some cats (not the majority) have a strong reaction to an insulin change, but not so much when switching from Vetsulin to Levemir.

Fabulous, thank you both so much!! So grateful for this community, you truly carry me through these moments of fear and doubt.

All the best, enjoy your weekends!
