Switching to Lantus - question

Hello, I’m switching to Lantus and ordered my first pen and tried to order some syringes to go with it as I know a lot of people here use syringes instead of the pen needles. The syringes were denied as they said that’s not how the pen is used. How do you guys get your syringes or did I misunderstand and I should just be using it as a pen? Thanks for your help.

It all depends on where you’re located. I’m lucky in that I just order mine from Amazon with no hoops to jump through. Some places require you to show a prescription for insulin to buy syringes, and others need a script for the syringes themselves. Unless you require that last option, you should be able to get syringes without involving your vet.

Who exactly did the denying in your case?

It was chewy that said they wouldn’t fill it - I live in the u.s I can try Amazon - anyway you could send me a link or direct me to which ones you buy off of Amazon?

Which state do you live in? Some states require a prescription even for syringes. There are 2 options to buy syringes in the US (besides Chewy).
  1. Walmart's ReliOn brand has 0.3cc (ml) u-100 syringes of 30 unit capacity for ~$12.5 for a box of 100. They come with half unit markings. They are not available online. Only in stores.

  2. You can also buy them online at www.adwdiabetes.com. Look for U-100 syringes of 0.3ml (30 units) with half unit markings. There are many brands - Carepoint Vet, Sure Comfort, BD, Monojet etc.

If you have a Walmart near you they have them, either packages are OK, just check them, you can't order these on line you need to go into the store
You want 0.30 cc/ml (30 units) syringes with half unit markings

We use the pens just like a vial , just stick the syringe in the gray rubber stopper and draw out your insulin
Just take the cap off the pen and use a U100 syringes and pull the insulin out of the pen!
