Hi all. I currently use the Alphatrak2 meter but the test strips are eating up my budget. I've read a few things from people having success using the Freestyle Lite strips in that meter so was wondering if I should go that route or just get a brand new human meter and strips. Any advice?

Some folks find that works well for them.
The cost is still more than using a WalMart Confirm or Confirm Micro glucometer and strips.
Its up to you and your budget. I liked how the Micro fit in my hand and had no coding needed.

I would probably get a new human meter. You go through so many strips each day, plus the cost if insulin and vet visits. It all adds up. If you can save a bit on the strips, that's what I would do. You'll have to get familiar with the human numbers and what they mean for a cat. BJM has a link on her signature called Glucometer Notes that will explain it all.

I really think you'd like the Relion Confirm or Micro from WalMart....they take the same tiny sample size as the Alpha, but the strips are a lot more affordable at $35.88 for 100 (and if you need strips at 4am, you can get them!) ....or you can get an even better price from ADW...Their Arkray GlucoCard01 is the exact same meter as the Confirm (Arkray makes the Confirm and Micro for WalMart and they just re-brand them with their Relion name) and you can buy the Arkray strips and use them in the Confirm. With their "buy 4 get 1 free" for $69.99, you're getting 250 strips for $70 and a lot of times they have coupons for 10% off they send in emails

I've heard good things about the relion and that seems to be the concensus here. I think I'll head to Walmart tomorrow and grab one! Thanks :)
