Switching in a week to Lantus from Humulin-N

Hi everyone,
Newly DX kitty over here and couldn't afford to buy Lantus at the human pharmacy. So I got 1/2 price Humulin but now have Lantus Solostar pens coming from Marks Marine in about a week.
Any advice on what that switch will look like? Doctor had originally prescribed Lantus 1 unit 2x/day (because that's their standard and I couldn't afford to do a curve in-house @ vet), and they didn't change their rec when I switched to Humulin.
The Humulin seems to barely be affecting her as prescribed, but she's only been taking it since Monday night and I just got my BG monitor yesterday.

Hello and welcome. Good for you on home testing. What's with the cone of shame?

I see your kitty is a recent DKA, we will likely be a bit more aggressive with the dosing because of that. And we probably wait until closer to the insulin switch date before suggesting a new dose, maybe post here a couple days before. How she does on her current insulin may also influence our dose suggestions.

What food is River eating? How is her appetite? And last question, for now, how much does she weigh?

Ha!! The cone of shame is from when she was in the hospital last weekend. I just thought she looked so cute!!

I will post shortly before she switches over. Just got confirmation that my order from Canada has shipped!

She is eating like a beast lately. She had dropped to about 6.5 pounds before her DKA diagnosis so the fact that she has her appetite back has me ecstatic. I imagine she’s already gained back about half a pound. She’s eating Fancy Feast classic pate, a variety of flavors while we continue testing them out. But she seems to be into chicken and chicken/liver.
 
Awesome news on the appetite and weight gain! I just wanted to make sure you were feeding low carb wet or raw food. Sounds like she's eating the right stuff. We do have a couple of dosing methods here, Tight Regulation or Start Low Go Slow. People pick one or the other, depending on what suits their lifestyle and goals for their kitties. You can only use TR if you are on low carb wet or raw, so no limitations on which you'd like to choose.

I’ve heard of TR but don’t know much. Hooray another rabbit hole to dive down!!:eek:
 
Do you have the U-100 syringes for dosing the Lantus? Have you decided whether you want to follow SLGS or TR?
