Hello!

A few weeks ago I ordered some Lantus from a Canadian pharmacy and it finally arrived today. Yay! I'm planning on immediately switching Harry over, but I'm not sure exactly the best way to go about that.

He has been on Lantus before, but it was over a year ago. He started off on 2u, then when I changed his diet around, gradually weaned him off. (Jan - March 2016ish)

He's been on Vetsulin since late Jan this year. Started off at 1u and been hanging out at about 1.5u most days.

My original thinking has been to skip his AM dose of Vetsulin and give him Lantus in the PM, and to just start off with 1u, but I want to make sure I do it in the way that's best for my kitten. Any advice is appreciated!

You don't have to skip a dose of Vetsulin .....you can give it tonight (if you want) and start Lantus in the morning. Vetsulin is an "in and out" insulin, so once it's gone, it's gone...there's nothing "left over" to worry about

On your spreadsheet, you need to change the permissions so we can see it. Go to the top right corner and hit "Share"....a new box will pop up.....at the bottom right of that box you'll see "Advanced"....click there and choose "Anyone with the link can view"

We'd like to see what kind of numbers he's been getting and the dosage before giving advice on a starting dose for Lantus

The other thing is, you will want to give the first Lantus dose when you know you are going to be around to monitor (was that why you were thinking of doing it at night?). If you have daytime obligations during the week, I'd probably suggest starting on the weekend or whatever day you'll next be home, just because once in a while (not always!) a new insulin will produce surprises on the very first dose.

Oops, thought it was set to public, let me fix that real quick! Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Yeah, I wanted to make sure we'd be there (because I've honestly been really bad about checking his sugar in the morning) but I recently quit my job so I should be able to get a good curve. I'll give him some tomorrow and I'll be able to keep an eye on him. Thanks for the help!
