Lucy has been eating the Royal Canin Venison now for a while. When the vet initially switched her to it due to what they suspected was IBD (not confirmed via biopsy), I was really hesitant because of how high-carb it was, but it seemed to help with a lot of the constant issues she was having (acute pancreatitis, stomach upset/bloating, and various other issues) so I kept her on it as a temporary thing. I want to switch her now because Royal Canin has just had too many extended stock issues and it's very stressful to not be able to find her food anywhere each time it's out. I am really worried about the whole switching process and having the issues come up again.
1. Is it a bad idea to switch her to a new food and novel protein at the same time? She is eating the RC Venison, and one of the other foods I was looking at was the Ziwipeak Venison. However, was also considering the Rabbit. Is this just a bad idea?
2. Currently, I'm looking at switching her to Ziwipeak or the Nature's Variety Instinct Original (open to other suggestions, these two just didn't seem to have a bunch of gums and starches in them, and were low carb in the chart). My concern with the Insinct is that it also has pork and some fish oil in it. Wondering if this could pose an issue? Ziwipeak looks like a great food but is just so expensive and the fat % is quite a bit higher than the RC she is on, and she tends to struggle with high-fat foods. Just not sure which variable is most important to focus on.
