Switching from Novolin N

Hello, my cat was diagnosed about 2 months ago and put on Novolin. He is getting 3.5 u 2 times a day. He's not getting any better. I am asking the vet to change his insulin. Lantus and levemir seem to be the ones with best results. Has any one had any good or bad results with either lantus or levemir? Thank you for the advice.

In the beginning bella was on novolin n and his numbers were horrible, I switch to lantus and they have been so much better, I personally like lantus, I’ve never tried levemir

I used lantus on previous kitty and now current kitty. Olive didn't get anywhere with it and was getting higher than normal doses. I switched to levemir and she had immediate response. HOWEVER, we found out she is now an acro kitty and that's a whole different ballgame. She doesn't follow the rule book.

Whatever insulin works for your kitty and brings down the glucose is the insulin you want to use.

Another thing to consider is your schedule. Levemir USUALLY has a late nadir whereas lantus USUALLY nadirs at +5-6. This varies from cat to cat but when O had Max I needed to be gone for the latter half of the cycle so I stuck with lantus which did get him tightly regulated. It did take a year though. Good luck with whichever you choose.
