Switched from clay to wood litter for a diabetic cat in Germany - fantastic!

I picked up a smaller bag of "Cosycat" brand "Organic Wood Cat Litter" here in Germany based upon a thread or two I read in this forum, and I gotta say.. It's an absolute game changer. Coco had a problem with uncontrolled diabetes, and while it has gotten better after switching from Caninsulin to ProZinc, he had still been muddying up his litterbox every time he urinated when his blood sugar has gotten above 300.

Then, decided to try some wood based litter, and he took right to it fairly quickly, and the smell (for me, but not really the wife yet..) has completely went away! Not only does it not smell bad after he goes, but it clumps in an absolutely amazing way! It only lets the urine go down about 2-3 inches, and comes out as a solid clump that weighs at LEAST 4x less than what had to be scooped out with clay litter. And no more mud. Normally we would have to change out a litter box completely at least every 3 days, and with this stuff, I could see it lasting a few weeks, easy. Where clay litter would allow the urine to spread out and contaminate a lot more litter, the wood litter keeps it together, and it just seems like a lot less waste is generated, as if the wood is expanding and soaking up the urine. It clumps really, REALLY well.

I cannot recommend enough the idea of changing from clay litter to wood, for any cat, diabetic or not, who will tolerate it.

I use the Frisco Grass Litter and also the Sustainably Yours crystal litters. I haven’t used clay for years. It’s dusty and heavy and I hate it. It is cheaper though.
