Hi everyone,
I've been an emotional rollercoaster trying to figure out how to handle Mr Sweetums. For 5 days he was in the ICU and just yesterday he was discharged and came home. Upon coming home, he ate a little bit and drank water. Today I've had no luck, he won't drink water, I had to syringe feed him (which literally broke my heart), my little guy has always been the most talktive, energentic, cuddle monster, that demaned attention and loved to play. Now imagine the opposite. I called the hospital he was in, because I needed more instructions on what to do and tonight they literally just said look at the discharge papers, he isn't in our care anymore. I feel so alone, and now I'm $11,000 in vet bills and my child still won't eat. If anyone would like to share the link or donate I would really appericate that. (Link will be below)
On top of that he hasn't had a bowel movement since Sunday, it's almost been a FULL WEEK, and the hospital was saying since he isn't eating he isn't going to have a bowel movement due to the the stool just being in the ascending colon and not descending. Okay, well he has an appettite booster and that clearly hasn't worked. He was on a feeding tube in the hospital as well. I'm very concered and I have a follow up with the internist this Tuesday but what do I do in the meantime? I'm trying my best to keep it together, as I know he feels what I feel and I really don't want him to see me crying, I want him to be better.

I messed up and couldn't shoot the insulin in the right spot so the morning dose wasn't administered. Of course I did not do it again as that is what it says in the discharge papers. I syringe fed him again this morning at 11am and his dose was at 12:15pm, however as stated it was missed.
I had to work so I was gone from 1:40ishPM to 6:30ishPM, upon coming home, I tested out to see if he would eat just a little. So I put Dr. Esley's dry food (very small amount) in his food bowl and he ate it :cat:. However now I am a bit scared that he will throw up, or maybe I am freaking myself out. He isn't hiding under the bed anymore and my parents said he has been out more. I checked his blood glucose with the Freestyle Libre 2 that the hospital put on and it is reading 292, it has been in the 310 and higher range for the past couple days so it is slowly going lower. The lowest reading today was 247 at 1:32Pm to 3:12PM.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I’m sorry we do not have go fund me pages on this forum.
We do have THIS financial link page
I’m sorry your kitty is so unwell. Did they tell you what was wrong with Mr Sweetums? Did he have DKA?
Did the ER give you any lab results when you left? If not please phone them and ask them to email them to you. They are yours as you paid for them. Its important we can see what has been happening with him. Can you copy and paste the discharge papers into this page please so we can see what is going on?

If he is not eating I am glad you are syringe feeding him. It is very important he eats and eat a lot. Keep syringe feeding him often and in the meantime I would ring your normal vet and ask him to give you a script for some ondansetron which is an antinausea medication. This needs to be done today. Mr Sweetums is obviously nauseated and needs medication for it. It is no good giving an appetite stimulant if he is nauseated. He needs an antinausea medication first before the appetite stimulant.
Did they give you any pain medication for him on discharge?

Can you tell us what insulin he is having and how much please?
Don’t wait til Tuesday before you get things moving. He needs things happening now. Otherwise he could end up back in hospital.
We can help you but we need information first.:)
Hang in there. You have come to the best place:bighug:

Bron has provided very good information.

I would also ask to speak with the practice manager at the vet hospital. What they told you is wrong. You can always suggest you will contact the state board for veterinarians and tell them about the response of the practice. They are abandoning your cat. In health care, that's malpractice. You an also call your credit card company and put a hold on the payment and tell the credit card company that the clinic is denying care. I suspect that telling the hospital that you're putting a hold on the bill will get their attention.

Bron is correct. We can't support a gofundme link and I deleted it from your post. People can send you a private message if they have questions about donating.

Thank you for telling me this, I didn't know. I'm assuming there is no way to post the link on my page? I'm very new here and still trying to understand this. I came across this website on the google search and it seemed so helpful.
The ER diagnosis that they came with was Diabeats NOT DKA (thankfully) But I am afraid it will lead to this if he does not eat. He luckily isn't struggling to urinate, but stilll has not had a bowel movement.
The medications he has are:
Mirtazapine transderman ointment 100mg/gm. - apply 1.5 in strip to inner ear every 24 hours.
Gabapentin oral soultion 100 mg/mL. - Give 1mL by mouth every 8-12 hours as needed for pain. May decrease to 0.7mL if too sedate.
Cerenia 16mg (Per tablet). - Give 1 tablet by mouth every 24 hours as needed for naseua and decreased appetite.
Lantus Glargine insulin Inj 100u/mL, 10mL (per vial). - Give 2 units subcutaneously twice daily after eating and confirming blood sugar is 150 or higher. 1mL if he did not eat or ate partially. & if not eaten within the next 12 hours after first doasge, do not give insulin and call vet.

His vet is closed today, but they open again tomorrow. I'm not sure if they have the copies from the hospitalzation, but they have it from the previous ER visit before the hopalization (went to two different ER's as one is 24hrs and the other isn't and doesn't do hospitalzation) I'll have the hospital transfer them over tomorrow.
I'm always so scared to leave him to go to work even but need my job in order to pay for these bills. He won't even drink water anymore at this point, so that's why I syringe feed him the wet food. I don't want to shoot water in his mouth, as I'm scared about that. He won't even eat out of my hand so that's why I had to result to the syringe.
They charged my card right away, and it already went through but I can always dispute this? But I don't want any legal trouble.

Did the ER send you home with ondansetron or cerenia for nausea? My cat with chronic pancreatitis would sometimes need nausea medication for a month or longer. If not eating I wonder why the feeding tube was removed. I never had one but syringe feeding and ondansetron got Max to eat. Pancreatitis can also be painful so often pain medication is given. If not eating he could be getting dehydrated. Right now he needs to eat so see if he will eat anything. My cats often will eat Gerbers baby food all meat when they don’t want anything else.

Cerenia for the nausea. I think since he is at home they think he will eat more comfortably, and he just nibbled a bit on some dry food. I didn't put much out because around 11am I fed him with a syringe. He is acutally drinking water now. I have the Gabapentin for the pain meds, but unless I feel he is showing signs of pain I will give it. He has been a bit more open today, he feeding time is coming soon again around 11pm so I will see if he eats on his own or I need to syringe feed him again. I give him Smalls wet cat food.

You are correct. We do not allow fundraising on the message board unless it is approved by the site administrator. Bron gave you a link to some financial aid sites.
Thank you, I have acutallly looked into them and applied to one so far, the others I need to do more deep diving on. I have printed flyers for his GoFundMe to post at the libary, local markets, and community centers. I'm hoping that helps, if there is anymore recommendations please let me know.

You can dispute the bill with your credit card company and it won’t put you in legal trouble.

So you have pain medication and nausea bit ondansetron works better fur nausea for many cats.. Cerenia works well for vomiting but for some days is as good for nausea. It looks like your cat could benefit from ondansetron. Maybe you can get some from your regular vet or an RX to get some at Costco or a local pharmacy. It needs to be given every 6-8 hours though.
