cat and sweet max

Last week, one eye teared a bit. Didn't get goopy. I wiped it, and thought I saw some type of particle.
The past few days, he has been sneezing and coughing. No goop noted. He sounds a bit raspy when breathing, but seems to be coming from his head, not his chest.
For the 1st time in years, he didn't come in, climb up on my chest, and tell me goodnight. He ate this morning, and although he isn't sleeping on his usual spot on the bed, he is NOT hiding. Sleeping in a basket he likes.
He is FIV+ and insulin dependent for 8(?) years. Should I just watch him? Are there home treatments? The eye drip started almost a week ago, and seems to be fine now.
Maybe I'm worrying too much about Max. I have been worried about him since DD found her kitty had passed without warning or any signs of illness. I know that Max is a Gift. He has been through so much, and I know I can't keep him forever, but want him to be here for years to come.
Hugs, Headbutts, and Healing,
Cat, Sweet Max, and gang
ETA: I read that I should just let it run its course. Don't know where he got it though, but thinking it may be allergies?
